Vudu HD Streaming useless at night

I used to be able to stream in HD no problem. A few weeks ago it started where I could not watch in HD always had to drop back to SD.

Vudu speed test at night an abysmal less than 2meg. In the morning though I get close to my 15meg speed.

Even when Vudu won't stream in HD at night my providers speedtest and Speedtest.net give me a result way above what is needed to stream HD. This problem has to be on Vudu's end doesn't it?

I just ran it on my wired computer and on the TV via wireless network on Vudu and it is flying. This is at 8:30am
Problem is I like to be able to watch movies at night like a normal person after work.

Somehow. somewhere someway there has to be an answer.

I've already had my cable internet provider test and my system is running at full capacity.

I feel your pain, brother. Same story here. Vudu blames AT&T, and AT&T says its Vudu's fault. Streaming used to work well for me. Not so anymore.

Just got off phone with internet provider...."it has to be Vudu problem at night"....then just now got off with Vudu rep and said "it has to be local internet provider problem!"

In the end it's just my problem I guess

Update. By 12:30 in the afternoon (NOT PEAK EVENING VIEWING TIME OR PEAK INTERNET USE IN TOWN) it wouldn't stream in HD.

Immediately went to Amazon and paid for an HD movie streaming on same device with same wireless connection and it played perfectly in HD.

          VUDU....fix your problem

I'd be happy if they'd at least acknowledge the problem. Lately, they've been dodging this topic.

I know it's just you and me Keith, but I have a theory. Last night I had a movie that buffered so much it made me stop watching it. I have a bunch of Pan Am episodes, and it played with zero buffering issues. This was immediately after the movie we were watching puked.

Vudu will have you run 3 tracerts to "prove" it's your ISP's fault and not theirs. Maybe the 3 servers they have you do that are their 3 different movie servers. Maybe the movie that wouldn't play was on one server, and Pan Am is on another. That could explain why the movie wouldn't play, but Pan Am would. I find it hard to believe that this is my ISP's fault when everything I do on the web works without a hitch, except for Vudu.

I ran a speed test on my Vudu app. It lit the bar up completely green, and 10 seconds later it stopped. There was a message about network problems, please try again. Second time, it ran ok. Full green bar, >9.0. Vudu recommends HDX. What a sigh of relief! I'll try a movie I already bought, so I don't ruin another rental. Any bets?

An hour later, and no buffering issues. I called Vudu to see what my stream speed was. He told me it was anywhere from 2 to 9 meg. (I upgraded to 18 meg service today.). He reviewed my notes from yesterday, where that guy said it's my ISP's fault. He could not explain why I can ping Vudu's servers and not lose any packets. He told me he'd send the ticket to 3rd level support. I just want answers! I have no more control over my ISP than Vudu does. At least tonight's movie is viewable. I wonder if the next one will be.

Seems to be the way it is here. Not too long ago, Vudu would provide some answers here in the forums. Seems that they've decided against doing that anymore.

Looks like it's just you and me!

update...I have spoken again to my ISP and they are going to run some other test. Finally got a guy that said he has taken numerous calls about streaming movies recently.

But, VUDU is useless basically past noon around here. Amazon.com streaming is bad now too at night.
It's not my wifi either. I can run and get good test speeds still in the TV room on wife's laptop and my tablet.

                        Here's the strangest thing though.
Netflix had the same movie that Amazon had and it looked great on Netflix picture wise. I switch it off and went to Amazon and tried the movie and it was about at good at SD at best.

                        Netflix looked like HD.

I don't know what to think.
Logic would say VUDU and Amazon are having problems at "Peak" times I guess.
Only problem with Netflix is it will sometimes flicker and go to a little worse picture then flicker again and the picture will be HD quality.

I'm going to stay on it. I want my HD eveing streaming back

Try testmy.net to test you download speed independently. It actually lets you pick how big a download you want. I just did a 25meg test and got nearly 10meg.

Neat test. I downloaded a 25 MB file and tested at 18.1.

I have the same problem. Watched Sherlock Holmes the other night in HD on my VUDU branded device with hard drive, and 2/3 of the way through the movie, it buffered so much that it slowed to SD, and then it wouldn't even stream at SD. Speedtest showed less than 1 Mbps, despite my network speedtest showing 40Mbps connection to the internet (RR lightning). I will not be renting any more movies until this problem is resolved. In fact, I watched another movie a couple of nights later and rented it from a Blockbuster Kiosk for $2.
