Vudu Forum Guidelines

The Vudu Forums are designed to help viewers get the most out of their Vudu experience. Here, Vudu customers may post information, questions, ideas, etc. on the subject of Vudu and Vudu -related issues (home theater, entertainment, etc). Although the primary purpose of these forums is to help Vudu customers with questions and/or problems with their Vudu service, there are also off-topic areas available within the Vudu Forums for users to chat with like-minded people, subject to the limitations below.

Please post all comments in English. When posting a comment in the Vudu Forums, please conduct yourself in a respectful and civil manner. While we respect that you may feel strongly about an issue, please leave room for discussion.

Vudu reserves the right to refrain from posting and/or to remove user comments, including comments that contain any of the following:

1. Obscenities, defamatory language, discriminatory language, or other language not suitable for a public forum
2. Email addresses, phone numbers, links to websites, physical addresses or other forms of contact information

    External Bluray drive now reading certain bluray discs as dvd instead of bluray

    So I decided to add some d2d titles that I had previously held back on. About a third of the bluray discs I have tried are reading as dvds, with the option of hdx and sd. It's not tied into any specific studio and is happening seemingly at random. The other two thirds identify properly as bluray.

    The only change I have made on my system is the installation of Make MKV and Handbrake. Other than that the drivers remain the same. I am using the external usb drive that I purchased on Amazon by CBear and the default Windows 8 drivers that installed upon plugging in the drive. I did notice that the drivers are dated 6/21/2006 and are listed as: 6.2.9200.16384.

    I tried restoring to a point before I installed Make MKV and Handbrake but that didn't work. I also tried the external drive on another desktop with Windows 7 and the same thing occurs for the same movies. I uninstalled the drive and reinstalled it it under System Properties also.

    Any help would be appreciated as this is incredibly frustrating. Here's my info from the DXdiag file.

    I think that's really got more to do with VUDU's database than your hardware. Sometimes the app gets it wrong because the recognized disc is registered to the incorrect edition, and sometimes to entirely incorrect title.

      Out of curiosity I tried the movies at my friends house on his account, his computer. It is an internal bluray drive and the same movies were recognized as DVDs instead of blurays. So I can rule out the problem as being isolated to my computer.
