Red Network Light Can't connect to Vudu

    Hi all,

I just got a Vudu for christmas and bought a wireless adapter for it. I connected and registered the device but then I get to the network test and it passes the first 2 but not the last one. I e-mailed Vudu but was told I won't hear back till Monday so I thought I would try here. Any one have any ideas. I noticed if I click on manual set up it moves on to the downloading video library but then doesn't progress.

    Greg,

Tell us more about your network setup (router, switches, cablemodem/DSL, wireless devices, DHCP server status) and we might be able to solve your problem.

Yeah, tell us about your router and also try a reboot. Sometimes if the box gets stuck during setup, this can fix it. Just pull the power and re-apply.

An easy diagnostic you can do right now would be to test a wired connection (i.e. move the Vudu or get a long cable) and see if that works. If the wired connection works, you have isolated the problem to your wireless topology, if the wired fails, then the problem is elsewhere.

My Router is netgear wireless router kwGr614

I don't use any switches and have a comcast cable modem that is 10mbps conection. I have a laptop and desktop. My laptop connects to the wireless router and I also have a wireless 5.6 gigbite phone.
DHCP server status? not sure how to check this. But mine is set to DHCPClient and is on.

I reset the box and it downloaded all the latest content but it still had a red light for the network light on the box but then afer it downloaded everything the light turned green. Is this normal behavior and what happens if it turns red again? Last time it gave me a 501 error. Can't believe I didn't try just unplugging it lol.

            thanks for the help.

It turns red if it can not connect to the VUDU servers... it's an indication that something is really wrong with the connectivity (you'll also see it in the User Interface on the screen, not just the box LED).

I've seen instances of the box turning red sometimes and not being able to connect to the Vudu servers but then a reboot seems to fix this. It happens rarely and as of yet, I'm not sure why.

Anyhow, when you first boot the box, it will be red for a short bit initially until the connection to Vudu is established. This may take a minutes or two after the box comes up.

Actually, before rebooting the box you may want to unplug & re-plug Ethernet cable. This is a quicker fix than rebooting the box

Thanks for the help all. I was able to use it for the first time. Even though it doesn't have alot of older more obscure movies I want to see, I liked the library. I was wondering why most don't have a box cover or poster? is this something that is going to change or is that just how it is?

The complete collection of box cover and poster art will be downloading to your new Vudu over the next 4-6 days. When the Vudu came out last year the catalog updates were not shown to you until all the artwork was downloaded, which many new owners found frustrating. The new system (the one you are experiencing), gets the complete catalog in text mode to your Vudu on day 1, while you have to wait a few days for the artwork to catch up. I think this is better for everyone.
