    Using Existing Modem/Router Strictly as Modem

    I'm getting ready to set up my Vudu with their wireless kit.

    I have Time Warner Cable for my internet provider and they installed a modem/router combo when I first got the system.

    It turns out that the router TWC installed (Netgear CG814WG v2) is one that Vudu has identified as causing problem with Vudu downloads.

    I went out and bought a new Netgear router (WNDR 3300) recommended by Vudu not realizing that I also need a modem.

    I have two questions:
    a) Can I use my existing Netgear router/modem combo as just a modem to feed the new Netgear router then go from the new router to my main computer and hook up the Vudu wireless kit to the new router? Basically I'll end up with two wireless networks in the house but the new router will feed my Vudu unit.
    b) If not, does anyone know of a Vudu recommended modem/router? The folks at Netgear suggest that I purchase a Netgear DGN2000 model but I'm hesitant to do that and then find out that there's a problem with that one as well.

    My modem from TWC is just a plain cable modem. And I use my own Linksys router connected to it.

    Can you get TWC to give you a plain cable modem??

      You should be able to go into the modem/router config and set it to "bridge" mode. This will disable the router function of the unit. If not, yeah, see if TWC can give you a plain modem or go buy one for $40 and save yourself the subscription fee for the hardware. Either way, you'll probably save money as the rental fee for a modem/router is probably higher than for just a modem.
