iPad app -- random logout, downloads not available

I really enjoyed watching movies on the Vudu app on my iPad on my vacation this summer. I watched a couple on the flights on the way out there (8/6-8/7), I watched another movie one evening (probably the 12th). Then on the 16th, on my flight back home I was prompted to log in. I was unable to do so, as I had no wifi, and the app would not let me access my downloads until I logged in. I had other things to do, but I was very disappointed that the Vudu app flaked out on me like that.

Thanks Max. We will try to reproduce the issue. I wonder if you set the iPad to be offline and it still asks you for login or not. In our test, it should not give you login prompt when you don't have network connection and automatically send you to offline page.

We will check the case for the expired login session (currently is set to 30-day).

    Thanks,
    LLN

Yes, I was in airplane mode when it prompted me to log in. (I was actually on an airplane at the time. ) The last time I had used the app was at a hotel, which redirected all traffic through their TOS page the way so many wifi spots do, so I wonder if that had anything to do with it. Opening a ticket was useless, as they responded:

It is very well possible that the VPN/proxy connections will not allow you to properly access your content and account. We no longer support those connections, So I definitely recommend running the app while on a regular network connection.

I have had this issue as well. I do not feel it is a great program if the app does not allow or keep the authentification info so that the user cal access their downloads when there is no access to wifi.
To have a "to go" app that cannot be used independently is not really an independent access to my movies.

Whoops. I thought I commented but looks like I didn't. I confirmed with VUDU. Whenever you turn off your iPad you must log back in after turning it on. So, if you will be without connectivity you cannot let it run out of batter or turn off. The new FAA regs will help because you can leave it on now, previously you were required to turn it off before the flight.

No matter, with the current behavior, it's not REALLY an offline viewing app. Just a 'sort-of' one.

I am not sure whom you have confirmed this issue and when you got that confirmation, but I cannot reproduce it with iPad mini iOS 7.0.2. We have 30-day password expiration and a reboot, power off cannot change this expiration. We did fix some problem with Airplane mode with the latest version 2.1.1.

If you see it please tell us more about your iOS device model and software version.

            Thanks,
            LLN

It was with "Fred R." from VUDU support on Oct 15 of 2013.

I have just duplicated the behavior:

              1. iPad on and logged in to VUDU
              2. Turn iPad off (not just shut the cover)
              3. Turn iPad on
              4. Login Screen appears before VUDU app will allow access

iPad 2, IOS 5.1.1, VUDU ?? (it is the version with 'on device' downloadable content)

Thank you for detailed report. I will find an iPad with 5.1.1 version to check on this bug. If I can reproduce then we will fix it shortly.

Do you have the latest 2.1.1? (if the app store doesn't give you update for VUDU Player then you are at 2.1.1 version).

I just updated to 2.1.1 and was able to duplicate the same behavior. As a note, I never even put it in Airplane mode. It asks for user/pass after every powercycle no matter what.

                  Thx.

I have my guy tested the same scenario on iPad1 5.1.1 and he couldn't reproduce it. Unfortunately our iPad 2 got upgraded to 7.0 so I will have to find the iPad2 to reproduce it.

Can you please tell me more if your iPad2 got jailbroken (Cydia) and have some special upgrade protection or anything like that?
(since you chose to stay with 5.1 w/o upgrade chance is you prefer it to be able to jailbrake).

                    Thanks,
                    LLN

It's factory out of the box. Nothing loaded that didn't come from App Store, not jailbroken, etc. I generally don't like OS upgrades because they usually slow the overall response down, mess up stuff that used to work, and require changing settings and learning new ways of doing the same things that used to work...all of which I generally don't have time for.

I have no clue now. Can you tell me about clock/date setting? Does it accurate online/offline?
