They get it right sometimes, for example the last email listed a HDX encode of one of my favorite horror films of the last ten years: http://www.vudu.com/movies/Title/The...ated-Cut/2005/

In this case the 'unrated' version is the version that was meant to be seen. This is a great, UK produced horror movie with shades of John Carpenter at his peak. When I heard that they recut the US theatrical release to include a happy ending I almost through up.

If you haven't seen it rent it now! Be warned you need to close attention to the first ten minutes to understand the dynamic between the female leads.

*sigh*. As a "rule", I, a customer, prefer the theatrical version. I won't presume to speak for everyone else though but my "vote" would be to err on that side. If I'm willing to go to the movie to see something, then the theatrical version must be OK. If it wasn't worth it for me to see in the movie theater and I was willing to wait for it to come to VOD or DVD, then the theatrical version would be my preference.

*sigh*. That is exactly my point, there is a lot behind the secnes, that's what I meant by they have a tough time working with the studios, as in, its not all in their control. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, but they need to work harder and register that they see this as a weakness. It is not a strength that most of the titles that they cary, which have Unrated versions, they do not cary.

There is so much behind the scenes that we are not privy to as the consumers of VUDU's service. Contracts, licenses, residuals, royalties, all lead into what can and can't be on the VUDU.

I am all for more content on the VUDU along with options. But I agree with Redwin...a lot of the "Un-Rated" versions should have left the cut out material on the floor.

I wouldn't say it's pointless. I typically rent the rated version because I have been disappointed with the unrated versions. Too many times, the extra content is pointless. For example, I found the "pie" scene in the theatrical version of "American Pie" much funnier than the one in the unrated version. To each their own.

I'm not going to list them all, but clearly Vudu is carrying a lot of films that are going to benefit from being seen in their unrated cuts, not their R cuts. What is the point of carrying such films if they are the butchered version that was released to theaters in order to satisfy the the MPAA censors? Vudu, please ask the studios to give you the unrated cuts of the films.

I realize there are a few unrated cuts that they have, but there are way too many films that are just pointless to rent in their R form. Without a change in this area I will probably have to consider a different platform, like going back to renting physical discs from Netflix, because as a movie buff, it's just sort of pointless.

Anyone else agree? Please speak up. And yes, I know Vudu has a tough time dealing with studios, but I don't know who's at fault here. Maybe Vudu wants the R releases in most cases? I sure hope that is not the issue at hand.
