Sadly, I didn't give the quality much attention at all. I was quickly booth hopping and what caught my eye was the streaming ability. Truth be told, had the guys on the EngadgetHD podcast not been talking up the LG's 390 BR player, I wouldn't have stopped there at all. From very brief recollection, it looked pretty good all things considered (standing only a 3-4 feet away from a 50" display).

Honestly, given the 24hr/30day limitations (not VUDU's fault of course), the extra cache time required for HDX discourages me from renting. Not all the time, but sometimes. I agree that the HDD less boxes mean that they will have to bump up their server and bandwidth capacity and I hope this may also offer folks with faster broadband connections to make better use of those connections. If you could make more use of a 20+Mb connection, the buffer time for HDX would be greatly decreased and would make streaming to VUDU boxes less desirable. Hopefully we'll see upgrades to our boxes at some point to allow for one or more of the above.

possibly. the only thing I don't get about that - they tout their hard drive as a competitive advantage. Having the movie cached locally supposedly helps prevent stuttering/jittery picture, etc. I'm not sure how they avoid this without the box...especially for hdx.

also, without the hard drive there goes the p2p approach. seems like they'd have to extend their server farm conciderably.

    but, anything is possible.

Sounds fair. I thought we talking about a manufacturing bottle neck however. If the BestBuy stores are now getting stock then I guess not.

Wow you drove 2 hours down from Madison. I usually make Saturday or Sunday drives up there to Cascade with the kids. Also takes me about 2 hours since I only live about 15 minutes from the Dundee BestBuy.

Yes 90 traffic is a bear. That is why I try to avoide the tollway as much as possible...

    Anyway enjoy your new VUDU.

    Re: Availabilty of vudu box

Well I drove 2 hours to the Best Buy in W Dundee and finally got my vudu box. They had one in stock and only one in stock! Thanks to the "VUDU Evangelist" for locating three stores that do have them in stock and I was luckily not too far from them but the congestion on I90 was brutal due to road construction and it took a lot longer than 2 hours driving back. Oddly enough the two Best Buy stores in Madison where I live are much larger than this store and they have never had any in stock.

Now I just hope vudu stays in business so my player doesn't become a big paperweight. Kinda of difficult to expand your customer base when you basically have to buy specific LG televisions to use their service these days.

the web site now shows this as purchasable only via best buy. Only accessories appear to be on sale at vudu.com.

I purchased mine on-line from bestbuy.com back in January.

    e) They can't pay their bills to their suppliers.

Whatever, the no explanation is inexcusable.

I am really wondering what's up with this. I hope they become available soon or we at least get some explanation.
