    VuDu recommendations?

One of the things I love about Netflix are the recommendations they give you based on past history as well as what others are watching. I guess my question is two-part:

    1. Are there any plans in the works for VuDu to start suggesting movies based on past history?
    2. When will the user-side of the VuDu website get beefed up? On-line wish list that syncs with your VuDu? A comprehensive, searchable on-line movie database?

I spen hours this weeked trolling through the movie list letter by letter - I've had the VuDu for over two months and was shocked at the depth of movies that I had no idea about. There's got to be an easier way for new and existing users to search out movies they like. The current interface is good but it seems like we are at the will of the VuDo developers for those movie suggestions. How can I search for all HD movies once that HD 'tile' goes away? How can I search for all free movies regardless of genre?

Keep up the good work team VuDu.

It needs to get better. I can't say a lot, but I think Vudu is moving in this direction in some form or another but until that point, you can utilitze all the search functions to get your movie list down to size.

If you go into Explore Genres, you can select "HD Movies" to view all the HD content. You can also select multiple genres. So if you want HD, Action and released within the last 6 months, you can do that.

Play with the filtering functions and you can narrow down your lists quite a bit to what you want to view...

As for the website, that is going to take a while I think.

At this time there is no search by price, but you can use the collections on the find moives page. That is where the special pricing moives are listed.

Just my 2 cents, but I have found the suggestions generated by both Netflix and Tivo totally worthless. I tend to use 'recent releases', 'most poplular' or a particular genre like action or chick-flick, etc.

I had the same experience when I tried Netflix. The recommendations were all over the place. I had about 60 movies in my list and most of their suggestions would be of movies I would never watch. Me thinks they "rig" the suggestions to move content.

Actually you are correct, my recommendations never hit the spot but what they do manage to do is get me searching for movies I'd not usually seek out. I know Netflix probably has their web-based movie interface trademarked out the wazoo, but if VuDu could come out with a similar scaled-down version suited to their wish-list implementation that would be ideal. It just seems tougher than it should be to search out interesting movies on the VuDu box.

Keep adding great movies though - that's still job #1 in my book.

I totally agree. To make things worse I used to be able to see a list of movies that Netflix was going to release that week and be able to put it my queue.

Now, unless I can't figure it out, they changed their UI so I can only pick from a list of new releases they force feed me.

                Re: VuDu recommendations?

Netflix has a massive upperhand on making recommendations to me as it has several years of movie rental data as well as my personal ratings for over 900 movies. However, they also make "the mistake" of PUBLISHING a standardized feed of my recommendations. Wouldn't it be great if I could push this standardized "feed" of recommendations into VUDU so that when a recommendation is available in VUDU I will see it in my wish list? In this way, VUDU can take advantage of the netflix recommendation engine without having to re-write/plagiarize, while also being able to take advantage of my personal netflix history/ratings.

Don't the Netflix recommendations depend on how you rate the titles you've rented? the more you rate the more accurate the recommendations are.

I didn't hang around with Netflix too long. Got tired of the bottom of my list being shipped first...I was with them for about 3 months.

                      Happy Holidays Vudu!

At this time of year, I miss some old Holiday movies. I cannot find the following titles on Vudu to purchase and watch.

                      Holiday in Handcuffs
                      Snowglobe
                      Twas the night before Christmas
                      Once Upon a Christmas
                      Twice Upon a Christmas
                      Single Santa Seeks Mrs. Clause
                      an Elf Story

I do like The Christmas Chronicals and Jingle Jangle, but I know Netflix will not release the rights.
