    Billing warning request

I wasn't sure if this is something I should post in the general forum, so I'll post it here first.

Is there a way for the Vudu to warn you before it charges your credit card? I had no idea I'd gone past the amount in my account - I just kept happily buying things. Then my wife saw the credit card statement and asked what the charge from Vudu was.

A nice warning on screen when you're going to go beyond the balance in your account would be great.

If one already exists, perhaps the design needs to stand out more because I've never spotted anything.

    Thanks

    Paul

    Re: Billing warning request

I moved this into the general forum as it's a good point.

I don't think any mechanism now exists. It's a good one. I'll file a feature request. Maybe there can be an e-mail set up when the balance dips below a certain amount.

an onscreen balance feature would be nice with a pop up notification when you are within X amount of dollars of the end of your current funds. I like the idea.

i would like a positive action system...
if i run out of funding, don't let me get anything till i approve a reload of a set amount...

my card/account number could have changed and i might not have remembered to update all of my common billing sites.
i might not have room on the account to reload...

wether it can be done on screen or tell me to login to my account to do it, i don't care, but i want to be in control of the rate and amount of spending...

Well, when you set up your account, you charged an amount and basically agreed that amount would be recharged whenever your balance hits zero. So effectively you have done that.

Vudu's system is like a lot of other systems like EZ Pass toll collection, etc. where you set up the automatic recharge so there's always a balance in your account.

If your credit card number changed or expired then the transaction would be denied and you'd get no more money in your account and be unable to rent/purchase movies until it was updated.

            Re: Billing warning request

I can see this as a valid concern. It is possible (especially in these times of evil credit companies) that the charge would be approved, but the owner would get an over limit penalty, and possible outrageous interest rates. Maybe we need a 3rd option on billing - $100, $20, and NADA (requires manual account load) - for folks that are living life on the edge.

Great idea Ed. I'm not living on the edge, but I do like to know where my money is going, and try to stay within budget.

Now days if you can walk or ride a bike instead of driving, you won't have to worry about the movie cost.

                  true...
                  true...
                  not 100% true...

but even systems like EZPass warn you when the balance is low (tells you at the moment you use it 'low bal')

how about a low balance warning (email or screen when oredering a movie) with the ability to authorize a reload (or just let it happen)...just a thought...

                    exactly.

i told the wife she could get a new sofa if she could 'find the money'
so it backfired and she but me on a tight budget...lol

I have Pay Go billing for my ATT cell phone service. When you're balance gets low, it keeps calling you to let you know until you run out of money answering the phone calls.

I agree with OP. When ordering a movie that will result in Vudu having to charge you to reload your account (e.g. $3.00 balance, $3.99 movie), there should be a dialog box that tells you that and prompts to Approve/Deny/Not Warn Again.
