Using Vudu for other internet content

I know the whole point of Vudu is to watch the movie content it has available.

However, there is bound to be an easy way to get other internet content (YouTube, other television re runs that are not on Vudu, etc.) on my TV.

Now that I am going to install an ethernet internet line near my tv, I should be able to somehow view anything on the internet onto my tv.

Maybe I have to splice a splitter into the ethernet connection and plug a laptop in to do this but does anyone have any ideas.

The future of all video watching is internet based! There has got to be a way to get set up for this now, with me hooking up this Vudu internet access.

I our house we use our Wii to get to some of that stuff.

Is your laptop running wireless? Then you don't need to "split" the internet connection. If you do have a need for multiple internet connections by the TV, an simple hub/switch will get the job done.

For now the Vudu is focused on doing one thing as good as possible - delivering movies. It the future we may see the Vudu extend to other functions like the one you have suggested.

Most PC's can output video via VGA, some can do standard video (the little yellow RCA connector), and (like mine) some can do HDMI.

My TV's can input all three types, so if I wanted to I could connect my PC to my TV.

If you're PC can't output what your TV can input, there are a slew of converters out there to do just about any combination.

Observation - The Vudu remote is not what I'd consider to be "browser friendly". Navigating through the web with the scroll/click method would not be a pleasant experience. I doubt the folks with the various IR devices controlling their Vudu's are any better off for browsing. I think you are better off using a mouse based device for that purpose.

Comment - This is another one of those AND/BOTh situations. You can have the best Movie Viewing device (Vudu of course) and the Internet Browsing device of your choice. Sort of like having a a chisel and a screwdriver - you can accomplish more and get better results with tools designed to do a job well.

One of the features of SlingCatcher (whenever the heck it will come out) will be to work with various online video sites. However, exact details are kind of sketchy on that front. They will either capture a certain area of the display on your PC (e.g. Hulu playback window) or, I hope, do something more sophisticated and not PC-dependent.
