Roku box would make a great replacement for an aging BX100

I purchased a Roku 2 XD this week to connect my basement TV into my Vudu account and am amazed at how well this gadget performs. I am now considering a second purchase to replace the BX100 attached to the TV in my family room. I have noticed the BX100 does not do well with the newer versions of the Vudu service. Mine is prone to re-booting itself in the middle of a movie. I've heard from others who are having the same experience so I don't think there is an issue with the box. Now, I may just swap it out for a Roku.

I'm with you raaurora! I got the same Roku 2 box for Christmas and that little hockey puck operates better than my Apple TV! I prefer Vudu over itunes on Apple TV (but I wish Disney was UV). HDX files are phenomenal on my office flatscreen using the Roku 2.

I have a Roku LT connected to a 720p plasma and it works surprisingly well with Vudu. I still prefer my PS3 and LG BD590, downloading HDX for playback later is the best option, no worries about other household users requiring bandwidth.

If you used the BX to download, The WD Live Hub is another option......I have a number of movies downloaded to it and the unit performs very well......along the line of what Chris said, I prefer downloads to streaming......

Yeah the downloading of HDX is a good point. That is the only thing that has stopped me thus far from hopping onto Amazon and ordering up another Roku. I don't want to invest in something more expensive than a Roku to preserve downloading when my bx100 still actually works. I'm torn.

Yeah, but the ol' BX is facing a period of diminishing returns as time goes on......You stated there are issues with it in your first post......My BX started acting weird about the time VUDU was changing their interface and making improvements to the service, as well as annoying buffering on a 25mbps FIOS connection....at that time I bought the Hub and never looked back...

That actually does look like a pretty good option although a little more expensive. I will have to do a little more reading but thanks much for the tip.

Been using the Roku 2 XS in my office for about a week. I don't have a cable box in there. It's great to have Vudu on the office flatscreen while I work. I can also switch to Netflix, Amazon Instant Video and HBO 2Go. Not sure if I'll sign up for Hulu Plus.

I use Vudu most of all.

I've been playing with my first Roku (3) and it's nice but I starting thinking, why would I pay $100 for this when I can get a 3D Blu-Rayer with Apps for the same or less money. Sure it doesn't have 700+ channels but no one will use more then a dozen or two anyway. What am I missing. That's the route I took when replacing my old BX100.

Or you could spend just a bit more and get a game system at the same time via PS3, only thing I've found it to be missing is Pandora and better DLNA media presentation.

I tried that actually. Did the whole PS3 thing. My problem is that it couldn't do 1080P 3D so no go. It was also overkill more than two the money and it couldn't do 1080P and still had to by a remote. Just me though.
