FelipeF Most of these aspect ratio issues were non-existent on FandangoNow. Why can't you guys fix them now that you have to fix licensing on thousands of movies that are missing or are in inferior versions on Vudu?

No one at Vudu seems to care. Look at the date this thread began and how few have actually been fixed.

Time after time (which was HD WS on FN) is SD Scan and Pan 4:3 on VUDU and frankly looks like it came from a VHS tape.

The Mad Max sequels are finally fixed! Sadly, the director’s cut of The Wild Bunch still isn’t. It’s widescreen for the first five minutes, then cuts off half the picture once’s the credits roll! Same with Kelly’s Heroes.

I have complained many times over the years to Vudu about these issues, and nearly every time Vudu has claimed that there was nothing they can do because "that is what the studio sent to us."

So, I contacted many of the studios through their customer service links on their home entertainment pages. This was Sony's response as of 11/10/2021:

Thank you for contacting Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

We have forwarded your concern and unfortunately, as a studio we cannot control what versions of our titles digital platforms offer to their consumers. Our content gets sent over to the retailers and they choose what version of the movie that platform will carry.

We apologize for any inconvenience we have caused.
Warner responded in a similar manner two years ago.

If MA can get these versions, so can Vudu. The sad reality is that they probably represent such a small portion of the their customer base that they’re not interested in fixing them.

Or want us to purchase the 4K version, which for many of the films, is currently the only option to get the correct aspect ratio.

                  Underworld
                  Christine
                  Indiana Jones series
                  etc.

Widescreen TV's are very common these days, and people know why those bars are there, so they understand that they are missing part of the picture if they watch a movie full screen. In the early days of DVD, it was common to see multiple sku's for a DVD, one for widescreen and one for full screen "Pan & Scan" but I don't think I have seen a fullscreen DVD in years. Also, if one does want to watch a movie in fullscreen, they can use the zoom feature of their player. So bottom line, vudu should offer OAR for every film!
I agree with you COMPLETELY. And several of the movies I've purchased thru VUDU used to be Widescreen format. Now nearly every title I have is showing in Fullscreen. And it's making me crazy because I know/can see/can tell the parts that are missing as a result. I've been going nuts the last couple months trying to fix this thinking it was something in my Roku TV settings. But I'm not having the same issue elsewhere. Except if I watch a movie on another service that I had purchased thru VUDU...then it's the same issue...fullscreen.
I want my widescreen HDX movies back!

The following titles have been updated to their OAR (and 5.1 sound!):

                      Blazing Saddles
                      Conspiracy Theory

                      Demolition Man
                      Matchstick Men

Please add Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle to the list. Apparently when Vudu requested a new encode that included 5.1 audio, Sony (the studio) sent them a cropped 16:9 version.

I’ve found a few movies like this across Vudu but the same movie on movies anywhere are fully letterboxed to their correct aspect ratio. Wyatt Earp was an awful full screen on Vudu but fully letterboxed on Movies Anywhere. Weird but true.

Pretty sure the Indy films were fixed in HD quite some time ago.

Seasons 1-3 are in the correct 4:3 AR, but from season 4 on it's cropped to 16:9

A warning to my fellow Star Trek fans: if having the director’s cut of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country in HD at long last seems too good to be true, it is. The director’s cut version is in the wrong aspect ratio. Sigh. I wish I could get my money back, but at least I can warn others.
The Director’s Cut is now in the correct aspect ratio with the UHD upgrade.

Does this include the HDX version?
