    Suggestion: New "collection" initial view

    Hello and good evening.

I created a mock up website to demonstrate this idea. All rights go to Vudu as I am not claiming anything:
    http://math.mercyhurst.edu/~cshaffer/fake/Vudu/

For those who don't want to click the website and "try it out", here's some pictures instead

    Non-Hover (would only happen on a computer/tablet):

    Hover:

I for one have a highly large collection of movies on Vudu. I don't like to brag about it, because I have spent WAY TOO MUCH MONEY on my personal collection, and Vudu is sucking even more out of me (Woot!). But this is not about that.

This thread is about "finding" and "initial viewing" of an owned collection.

    The Problem:
Too many movies... too little space and WAY too much scrolling

    Possible Solution:
Change the pictures to be like our bookshelfs. Show us the spines, and when we cover over the movie, change the image to the front (instead of always showing the front).

Again this is for OWNED MOVIES. Usually if we own a movie, we know that it is our collection and what we are looking to watch.

    Pro's:
*More movies within the viewing area (34 compared to 12, that's 22 more movies, or 2 rows compared to 6 rows of movies)
*Less Scrolling to find a movie

    Potential Con's:
    *VERY TINY FONT TO READ
*Personally took me ~20 minutes to find and crop the covers/spines for 4 movies. Just think about thousands...

Again I'm not asking this to be implemented, only a suggestion. Something to look into if it causes enough of a spark, or something to completely eliminate if you hate it. I understand everyone is busy, so instead of thinking "I wonder what that would look like", here's a live demo that you can play with =D

*Also, I know there are bugs with this. It's coded in very VERY basic HTML/CSS. Vudu is more javascript's I didn't want to get into a legal issue with trying to manipulate with their product. Again, this is only a suggestion for Vudu's development department.

When we bought the movies / converted them from D2D, we (most of the time) know what we own. I personally do not need to see the front of a movie to know what I want to watch.

Maybe this could just be an extra "stylesheet" that we can choose to switch to if we prefer to have them "Bookmarked" compared to "Laid Out".

I really like it....but I would rotate the images 90 degrees counterclockwise. It looks like you could fit about 5 across, and I think they would be easier to read that way.

Heck, if you're doing this via different views of the same data, you should be able to do both. I've set up databases like this in Drupal.

While I appreciate your hard work, I personally don't like user hover-over that much. I don't see this working on none-PC devices. Plus, all this would really do is fit more titles on the display at once. The goal to organizing is to limit how much you have to look to find the movie you are looking for. I would rather have a true collection feature under a totally new tab that allows us to group or bundle movies together.

Appreciate the effort. Perhaps worth wild to have a toggle to allow people to switch between both views. I think it's easier to read if they are 180 degrees the other way but understand that this is not how they would be merchandised ANYWHERE, so I get it.

For "me" it just doesn't work. I know you get more information on the screen but it's actually quicker for me personally to visually connect with the cover art and scroll through it faster than it is to read the spine label even with proper spine artwork which doesn't exist currently in the database and would have to be added for everything. Even places like IMBD don't have spine artwork that I'm aware of.

Just my personal take but I'm always happy to have another view to switch between.
