Re: Official VUDU Labs Support and Discussion Thread

This is very promising and I hope that "first half of 2009" is closer to Jan-Feb instead of May-June

What would be cool, though, if even before official tools/SDK is released VUDU would work with select outside developers to bring some neat apps. I've been a big fan of Boxee and comments on NewTeeVee's story make me very happy -- http://newteevee.com/2008/12/15/will-opening-up-keep-vudu-from-closing-down/

      Swapping emails doesn't mean much.

Where's your Christmas spirit, Patrick?! Next thing you are going to tell me is that VUDU remote doesn't have a hidden accelerometer in it and you are not considering turning the box into a Vii gaming system!

I just want to set expectations. Lots of introductions are made in the industry.

Re: Official VUDU Labs Support and Discussion Thread

I played around withing Vudu Labs last night and I was pretty impressed. This is a very nice addition to the box. Everything I played with (which was everything but the games) was pretty cool and well implemented.

You Tube would be better if it had a search option but overall this was very nicely done.

The OnDemand TV was pretty good too. I'd like to see a few more mainstream shows added but this is DEFINITELY a step in the right direction and there's already plenty of content to watch. I really liked this.

Good job once again Vudu. Now if you can get to crackin' on external storage and adding some organization and filtering aspects to the My Vudu section so that we can more easily sort through our owned content then I'll be a happy camper (or a happier camper).

There's search capability in YouTube. I use it all the time.

Also, a little secret no one has brought up yet:

You can connect a USB keyboard now to a USB port on the Vudu and use it to type in names or titles to search for! How about that!

Where is this? I didn't see it last night while I was playing with it.

The keyboard feature is pretty slick. Makes me wonder if I should get a Dinovo Mini for this...

After you select YouTube the third option down from the top is "Search"

Youtube does have a search option. I used it last night to find my videos.

Wonder if I could plug my Bluetooth receiver into the USB port. It would be cool to be able to use my Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse from the couch.

I've thought about this too. Any keyboard/dongle combination should work as the Vudu won't know if it's a cable or wireless connecting the two.

I'll be surprised if the Bluetooth dongle works, as that type of device typically requires OS specific software to function. I personally have been using a wireless USB Keyboard/Mouse from Logitech. This device did not require special software to function.

If the BT pairing is done between the keyboard and USB receiver, there's no reason why it shouldn't work.

One other thing to keep in mind folks is that the USB Keyboard support is VERY limited - as in don't expect Vudu to take care of any glitches you might encounter. Consider this to be a sort of Christmas bonus at best. If you aren't happy with the Keyboard, the good old Vudu remote is still your best bet for reliable control of your Vudu.

That's a nice feature, I might need to pick up a new wireless keyboard sometime!

Hopefully this works on the regular movie (title/actor/director) search screen.
