FYI - I have not had a problem yet, since my Vudu has not yet arrived, just trying to make sure I am prepared before setting it up for the first time.

    thanks!
What are you using to connect the Vudu to your router?

I have ordered Vudu's wireless bridge or can connect running another Ethernet cable. Wanted to use the bridge connected to the router though so the box could be moved from TV to TV without first downloading content.

I only have one open port the router now. Have two computers and the DirecTV HD-DVR connected to the other 3 ports. 2 other laptops also connect via wireless to the router on a regular basis. At any given time, 2-3 computers and VUDU will be using the router.

This may be more info than you need or not enough. I am just enough of a gadget head to get into trouble .

You can always add a network switch to get more ports. They are inexpensive.

The wireless adapter from Vudu works independent of all your other wireless gear, so you should be in great shape. All you need is the one port open in your router to use the Vudu wireless adapter.

Under the advanced tab in this firmware access by time and date as well as throttle prioroty of applications by IP and/or IP range. This is useful for giving the VUDU more priority on our network when resources are least used (midnight to 4am PST). Downloading stubs then is fine by me. Downloading stubs when we're having a gaming session, not so much.

Something less advanced offered in my router's firmware D-LINK calls WISH (Wireless Intelligent Stream Handling) which allows prioritizing applications by IP address range. No time and date handling function here though so I went the advanced route. There are dropdown functions to set the following priority levels:

            best effort, video, voice

This way those who use VOIP for example could make sure other applications like VUDU never used too much bandwidth and degregate the call quality. Those who want to make sure their Media Center videos have maximum throughput could select "video" for example. Haven't analyzed the VUDU packet activity but it might be captured under the video in the router. If not, it can still be captured it by IP/IP range under advanced.

Your router firmware might or might not have a WISH-like functionality, but it probably has some type of advanced routing functionality if you dig into it. That is why my original suggestion was to check the support forums for the router and go from there.

The only other P2P used on our network is Skype and we shut that down when not using it. Within reason of course Vudu can suck down all it wants from midnight to 4am PST when our network has the most available resources but during the daytime, it needs to remain a lower priority on the network.
I have the DGL4500 too. It is an excellent router. Although I'm glad I haven't needed to mess with any throttling since I have FIOS and have a 50mbs down/20 mbs up pipe, so the little bandwidth my three VUDU boxes use never affects anything I'm doing online with other devices.

You'll be VERY happy with the wireless kit. I just got one not to use with my Vudu but for messing around with and creating a link when I need one. The client end at the Vudu is powered via USB so it will not need an extra power supply which is VERY nice.

One device goes at the router end and plugs into it (it's marked on the device where it goes). The other goes at the Vudu and that's it. Everything else is automatic. Works VERY well.
