If that particular movie is eligible for the Disc-To-Digital program you can upgrade to HDX for a small fee.

I should add that D2D (in-home or in-store) is the only way to upgrade from SD to HD (including HDX) without paying full price. The UV code in your DVD is almost certainly SD, but there is currently no way to upgrade a UV code (or title) from SD to HD without buying it again in HD. (In fact, Vudu appears to be the only UV retailer that even allows you to buy in HD, at full price, a title you already own in SD; the others all appear to hide their "buy" buttons completely if you own it in SD.)

Redeeming through Sony's website gives you a chance to "upgrade" your title for a cost. It isn't cheap though; I think it's like $6 or $7.

It seems you can upgrade Karate Kid (original movie) to HD for $3 which quite reasonable, but Vudu only offers SD. So how will that work? Will it still appear as HDX on Vudu even though they don't offer it in HDX or will it only be available in HD via the Sony site?

I got this title in HD at another vendor site but since Vudu only has the SD version, that is all that shows there. It shows as HD on Flixster and Ultraviolet. I think that it will be available at Vudu in HDX once they get the correct encode.
