    I downloaded a movie 100%

With WIFI on I touch the picture and it played no problem.
With WIFI turned off and I touch the picture it would not play. Just get the spinning lines.
With Airplane mode turned on and I touch the picture and it played just fine, with no problems.
Thank you very much. It is very interesting detail. So the only time the movie wouldn't play is you have Wifi OFF. When you have Wifi OFF then it would totally depending on the 4G/LTE to connect and obtain playback data. Do you have a working 4G/LTE signal at that time? Can you tell me the movie title that you have trouble with?

The movie title should not be relevant but I just want to match exactly your situation so I can see the problem. As of now I have iPhone 5, with 6.1.2 but I couldn't reproduce the problem w/ wifi on/off or Airplane mode on/off.

    Thanks,
    LLN

This is a big failure. How is this any different that what we had before ?
Sure I can actually download the movie, but I still need WiFi to play the movie? What gives. Might as well save my storage space and just stream it.

Since I saw your post, I did some testing. If wifi is off when I start the VUDU client, it asked for my login, and then complains there is no network. It does not open to the downloaded movies tab as others reported. If the client is running, already connected, and then I lose wifi, I can keep playing the movie. If network is weak, you're better to turn off wifi once the movie is playing, or you'll get pop-ups all the time.

As you said, the whole point of downloading movies is to watch them when you are not connected to the network. You need to plan ahead and leave the client running, already authenticated, or you can't start it up. I have a feeling it's a bug, not a plan. Does seem an obvious defect though. I wonder if the IOS version makes a difference. I have an iPad gen 1, running 5.1.1.

No trouble with wifi off. The movie played just fine. Not sure why it was checking the network all the time.

Why stop the movie at all? I finally turned off wifi on my iPad, just to make it stop complaining. Not sure if this is a bug, but it's sure poor from a usability prospective.

I don't know if this is a fluke or not but I upgraded this app and then downloaded a movie to try this out on.
The movie I downloaded actually was a movie that happened to have been started and watch about half way through on my TV.
So I was quite surprised when I started the downloaded movie it started right up where the movie had been stopped when watching it on the TV.

I guess this could be a good thing in case you have to leave and want to finish watching the movie somewhere other than at home. On the other hand it seemed odd that there would still be a connection to the movie viewing location when the file was downloaded.

I know I plan to download my UV/CFF films to a 4TB NAS and distribute them to my devices from there, when desired, but will we still be free to download within Vudu's apps without costing a CFF dl?

I know thats a lot of questions that may be unanswerable, but any info is appreciated.
Well, given CFF files will be created by the studios and provided to retailers (so this will be a gradual process, not "all UV titles available as CFF at once) - and as you say not all VUDU movies are UV - I would imagine the current "VUDU download" feature will be around for quite a while. I can't really say (because I don't know) what will happen in the longer term, though I'm sure a goal will be to make it as easy to use and consistent as possible

UV downloads will be in the CFF format, which should start becoming available later this year.
