Anyone else getting an Internet Cap from their ISP - we won't be able to watch HD/3D

My ISP - Suddenlink - just started charging us - their customers - for going over a 'cap' or maximum amount of internet data we may upload/download per month - 250GB. It sounds like a lot but it is about 8,500MB per Day.

If you watch about 3hrs (possibly less?) of HD or a 3D move or a UHD (stream it from VUDU or others) you will have used your allotment for the day! If there is more than one person in your house and you don't control everything they do - well you have even more problems!

What is VUDU and others going to do about this? It definitely puts the kibosh on streaming movies or TV! And now my nice new 4K tv - can't fully use/enjoy it can I?

We got to do something about this before they get all of us and pass some laws that we can't live with!

And as for VUDU and others -- IT LOOKS LIKE THEY PUT A CAP ON YOUR BUSINESS PROSPECTS! - just sayin'

What do you realistically expect VUDU to do? They're not going to downgrade their HDX quality just because an ISP decided to cap users.

I have the same ISP, but I don't expect to reach the cap. I'd have to watch 2 movies a day to use that much data. I'm lucky if I get to watch 3 movies a week! I do stream about an hour of netflix a few days a week, but I doubt that even comes close.

Agreed. And honestly, if anyone has ISP data usage issues, they can simply downrez themselves, or their kids, to SD... This sure isn't Vudu's problem. HOWEVER..., net neutrality is. I'm more concerned about Netflix etc. getting priority for bandwidth! Buffering... buffering... buffering

FYI, Comcast has a 300GB cap in their contracts. They don't currently enforce it, but they can at any time

Almost one-third of U.S. households have no choice for broadband Internet service

More than one third only have two choices, a fact which does not exactly foster healthy competition.

The infrastructure is a little on the pricey side.

I also have Suddenlink with the 250GB cap. If I up my speed to their highest tier, the cap goes up to 350GB. Before the cap was instituted, I was averaging about 200GB a month. That was because anytime I got a movie, I would download the copy to my computer (iTunes) because of their stupid terms of service. As for streaming the movie, I really don't at home because I have the physical disc. I have Vudu so my kids can enjoy my collection.

I've gone over the cap twice since then. First was because all my disney movies (about 60 movies) became available in HD when DMA was brought on line and I re-downloaded the HD copies. Second was when I was sick at home for 3 days and being lazy, I streamed like 4 or 5 seasons of "The Big Bang Theory" in HDx.

I don't come close to my cap right now. I still average about 200GB. Now, if it's a heavy month of new releases, then I may have an issue if I get the movie and it includes both UV and iTunes copies. Most retailers only offer one or the other, but some still give you both. I like having backups to my backups to my backups.

Now, if CFF ever comes to pass, I will probably download all my UV movies to a (to be built) media server so I can have another backup of the movies. Also, I'll be able to "stream" them if my internet goes down.

Very nice. I'm supposed to get those speeds from Comcast, but on my node I'm usually in the 60/12 range, and even then there's some throttling that sometimes brings me even lower. Mercifully, the 9mbps required for HDX is never a problem.
