Available in HD at Flixster, only SD at VUDU

I converted 2 DVDs the other day:
    • The Time Machine (1960)
    • The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima (1951).

They were listed only as SD-eligible on VUDU. On a whim, I decided to check Flixster D2D, and they were available in high-def there (one of them was even HD-only, I forget which). So, I uploaded them there instead for the (allegedly) better quality. Sure enough, in my UV account they are listed as HD.

I kind of regarded VUDU as the industry leader in picture quality. Is this a bug? neglect? a business decision? How common is this? I'll definitely be checking this out in the future if I ever get other old SD-only movies.

Yeah, but do they really show in HD or 1080p resolution when you're watching them?

Exactly. That's why I inserted the qualifier "allegedly" (and maybe you picked up on that hesitation). To tell the truth, it's hard for me to judge since my eyesight's not the best. In a side-to-side comparison (Vudu SD), the color tones on stills were clearly different, but image quality didn't look much better, if at all. But when I watched the full movies on Flixster this week, it did seem to be decent quality, so I remain unsure.

        Hmmm?

"While She Was Out" is another one that is available on Flixster in HD but not Vudu. I tried to convert but it didn't work because I have the Blu-ray version and not the DVD. Flixster only works with DVDs.

The Flixster d2d app shows everything as HD even if there is no way to watch it. Opposite of Sex, etc.... You can pay the upcharge to get HD and it will add to your account as HD, but there is no where to watch them in HD as of right now. Do a search in their search engine and try to find a SD only. The only good thing about it is that IF they ever do get an HD encode they should transfer over to Vudu.

I have about 50 or 60 movies in my UV locker I am waiting for vudu to upgrade. There are a couple of other threads where people list out the titles in the hopes they get upgraded, but there hasn't been much activity.

Once in a while a movie does get upgraded and they pop up at the top of the most recently purchased list.

The ones I remember getting upgraded from SD in the last 6 months or so: The Karate Kid, The Butterfly Effect 2, Logan's Run (just happened a few days ago).

Also, Orca The Killer Whale was upgraded from HD to HDX.

Sometimes a downgrade happens too - the HDX stream for Hiding Out was removed last fall due to a problem with the file and almost a year later the content team is still working on fixing it?
