    A few suggestions

I have a suggestion when browsing for movies. In the filters selection, there should be an "HD" option so you can find only movies in HD. I realize there are only two as of now, but it would be nice later on when more are available.

Along with the filter suggestions, maybe a cost filter. This could be for either purchase or rental. That was you could search for movies by price.

Also, I dont know if this would be somthing worth implementing or not, but maybe some kind of "Request to rent" button for some movies. I know the studios choose what movies are able to be rented and bought, and that newer movies are usually available for purchase first, but this would be especially helpful for older movies. For example, I saw Westworld in the list. Havent seen this movie in forever. Then I noticed that I can only purchase it for $9.99. If I could "Request to Rent" then maybe the number could be tallied and sent to the studios over time and then maybe made available for rental eventually. I really dont see any reason that old movies like that CANT be rented over Vudu.

Hey, the request for rent button is a FANTASTIC IDEA!!! I really like that. I'm going to submit it as an enhancement request unless someone else beats me to it!

As for the HD filter, it's been requested. For now, you can do a title search for "HD."

As for the price option, you can search for rental only or purchase only. I know the prices vary somewhat but not that greatly. Still it's worth adding it to the enhancement request list as well.

Are HD movies going to cost the same to rent?

I know that a lot of the old movies have low purchase prices - like $4.99. How much lower would it have to be to make the difference between owning and renting appealing? I know if it was $3.99 to rent and $4.99 go purchase, I'd go ahead and purchase it. How about $2.99, $1.99, or $.99? Where is your cutoff point philosophically speaking?

Not sure. I have a feeling they will be a dollar or two more. Purchase price is higher ($24.99 vs. $19.99) but comparable with purchase in the store.

I'm not to worried if I have to pay 5 or 6 bucks to rent the movie in HD. It's worth it to get the better picture quality. It certainly cheaper than one ticket at the theater...

Well, there are still a lot of "older" movies like Real Genius that cost $9.99 to buy and aren't rentable. I won't pay $10 to buy that, but I would pay $2.00 to rent it perhaps. Same goes for some of the old Star Trek movies.

The older movies with the much lower purchase prices are $0.99 to rent..

If thats the case, Id buy em. But most of the movies I WANT to watch are $9.99+. Thats too much for some old movie Ill never watch again.

                    Re: A few suggestions

It is concievable that the studios are conducting experiments with price points and they may fluctuate (rent and purchase) over time to see what is the best revenue model. Unfortunately there's no guarantee that the best revenue model will be the one we would prefer (i.e. all movies have competitive rental and purchase options). It might be interesting to pick a few bell weather titles and track them over the next year to see what happens with pricing.

Without a delete and reload capability, I would still rent in that case. I don't want to fill up my disk with stuff. If you can store about 50 SD movies, as the marketing stuff says, you would only be able to store about 25 HD movies. I really think the rental market is the sweet spot for Vudu.

Same here. Most movies I will never watch again, or if I do, itll be years from now. By then, whats another $4?

I know the poll says otherwise but I think most people will only rent on vudu.. And I would push for more of a rent only without a buy option strategy. Reason being is I wont buy a movie on vudu since I cant take it and put it on my computer ect (unless things change but I doubt they will). Plus if vudu went to rent only they could decrease the price of the box and sell more due to the fact they wouldn't need a large harddrive anymore.

250GB hard drives purchased in bulk/wholesale should cost under $60. You've got to have something in there, and you aren't going to save much getting anything much smaller.

I agree that targeting the rental community is the way to go. Buying just isnt a good option for the most part on the Vudu. You can usually find the DVD for half the price somewhere else and then be able to watch it anywhere. I will only be using the box for renting unless the purchase price is very low and I would watch the movie again the future.

As far as cutting costs on the box, Im pretty sure that the cost right now is where it is to cover the cost of the parts as well as recovering design costs, paying employees, and making a little profit. I doubt the box will get cheaper anytime soon unless they start selling a lot and recover those initial costs.
