Some of the aspect ratios and transfers are better here, some elsewhere. Audio quality may differ, as well.

I look forward to when the bumps are smoothed over, but for now, it's too fragmented, with every provider negotiating their own deals, to go with one-and-only-one provider.

Full Disclosure: I prefer watching the Blu-ray. I use streaming occasionally, usually for TV series (because it picks up where you left) but I'm a big fan of physical media. Plus, if you think a stream is strange, you can check it against the disk.
I wasn't talking about them using one service. I was referring to us, the viewers, the buyers. Lots of us only use one service. How were we to know a better transfer was on another service, if we only use one. That was the point. Disney needs to correct this, and Vudu needs to stop taking "nothing's wrong" as an end result.

I will agree that the opening sequence of Thor on Vudu is VERY dark. The scene is supposed to be dark to a certain extent but this encode goes a bit beyond the filmmakers intention I am sure. Faces are barely visible.

Please request a new encode Vudu.

If it was Disney that told Vudu that the encode is fine, maybe we should write or call Disney Movies Anywhere and tell THEM that it's wrong. Maybe if they hear from the consumers they will give Vudu a new encode.

Yep. Vudu knows about the issue (and this thread) and nothing changed. It didn't cross my mind to contact them. Vudu has thousands of movies and probably just as many support tickets. Contacting the transfer provider is a better idea at this point since it will be a unique issue for them & Vudu has already put forth their effort.

Is there an email address for DMA we can post here?

I was once told that we can't post that info here, but it's pretty easy to locate the 'contact us' information on the DMA website

Re: Vudu's 'Thor' (2011) is too dark

I went to the DMA Contact Us page and sent this comment. Feel free to reuse any of it, if you like (although please provide your own screenshots; reusing that part would probably cause them to discount your complaint):

The encode you sent to Vudu for "Thor" (2011) is unwatchable. It is mostly a black screen for the night scenes, which is a good portion of the first half of the movie, especially the first 30 minutes. I know the scenes are supposed to be "dark", but with all the lights off, at night, and my TV's brightness turned all the way up, I still cannot make out even which character is which. I have done detailed Avia calibration in the past, and I do not see this issue with any other content from Vudu or from other providers, even content with lots of night scenes, so I am certain that it is the encode itself that is the problem. In fact, it is only on Vudu that I have this issue with Thor, and I do not have this issue with any other Vudu content.

Please send Vudu a new encode of Thor, one that is checked for visual content. As it is now, the movie is largely unwatchable.

Here is the movie on Vudu: https://www.dropbox.com/s/md03z97pdc...04.13.jpg?dl=0

Here is the exact same scene on Amazon Instant Video: https://www.dropbox.com/s/b3583kous4...04.30.jpg?dl=0

Here's a set of screenshots I took that I sent to Disney & will be contacting others.

I just sent an email to DMA support as well. Great job with the screengrabs!
