Great for the studios - HOWEVER, for me the consumer, why should I continue to buy any new 4k physical releases from stores to get a digital code upscale included with my purchase? Or continue buying any digital 4k upscales from any digital retailer like Vudu, Amazon, or FandangoNow?

I'm still buying 5 to 10 4k upgrades a month for my collection and it now seems pointless to continue this. Yes this instance is just some browsers, but what about next time? Say, AT&T/Warner decides to wage a war against Roku because they can't workout an HBOMax carriage deal and then proceed to downgrade streaming quality to SD on all titles outside of HBOMax? Or a studio decides to target windows or etc? While I understand every film studio has a streaming service they want us as monthly subscribers now, but this tactic of theirs is BULL.

Also seeing some reports of this affecting built in TV apps now too.

Should've known better as an old-school user of Navigator. I knew about the Mosaic/Netscape roots for Firefox, but, I mistakenly thought they switched underlying engines a while ago as well. My mistake. Thanks for the info.

I'm sure the studios would rather you pay for all their new streaming services then have your own digital library. We'll probably be seeing a lot more of these issues in the future.

Is there any reason to think that this has more to do with Fandango buying Vudu??

No. FN still works fine. Vudu has always been a problem with DRM, very stringent and limiting. Even their own Win 10 UWP app no longer works for UHD (despite what their website says). Can't say why, but does not appear related to the FN purchase at all. And Vudu totally does not work in WMR on Edge unless you turn off hardware acceleration and then only in SD. Nor HDX on Quest 2 (it does stream SD now in latest Q2 browser release based on Chromium). FN works in all of these environments. As someone else said Prime Video, FN and several streaming services all work fine. This is Vudu for some unknown reason, always has been.

And if it's only Vudu and NOT FNow or Prime, or any others, this is not a studio issue, otherwise they would be doing to all streaming services/retailers. Something needs to be done here!

I will now be the third or fourth comment stating Edge will not playback ANYTHING in ANY quality that has not been addressed.

more and more VUDU movies not playing back in latest EDGE, with latest Win10 updates.

I wonder if access is getting confused as I keep trying on 2 laptops on Edge, a home computer on Edge AND that Vudu Win 10 app, a phone, and a ROKU. starting and stopping to try a different one might be confusing the active licensing location?

EDGE update: go to your login account > SETTINGS > PLAYBACK QUALITY > and force it to SD instead of HDX.

This allowed me to start playing movies in EDGE, in SD, then switch to HDX after it starts.
Not doing this, Edge doesn't want to launch it in HDX off the bat. And this only works sometimes. Some movies, never switch to HDX, some do. in my collection anyway.

OK VERY unhappy - you make me use EDGE to get HDX but I have to put playback to SD (when I paid for HD) and I can't use HD in EDGE - sounds like a catch22 and bait and switch. I also do NOT get any replies from support - so what the heck? Folks, nearly ALL movies in here are available on the movies anywhere...but this is stupid. Fix it Vudu.

Open Edge > Settings > System and performance > Use hardware acceleration when available

Enable "Use hardware acceleration when available" and that should fix it.
