    Amazon buying MGM

Does someone a lot smarter than me think this could affect MGM not being a part of Movies Anywhere? That would be big news

I don't know. I think it could result in more MGM titles going MA. It makes them more accessible.

Not sure what you mean by this. At the moment there are no MGM titles in Movies Anywhere. (Classic pre 1983 MGM titles like Casablanca and Wizard of Oz were acquired years ago by TNT/Warner Bros and they have full control of them, hence why those titles are MA and have the lion studio logo at the beginning. But they have nothing to do anymore with the MGM studio Amazon just acquired.

That being said, MGM never joined MA because it is very expensive to join MA and they didn't have the dough to cough up. Amazon has big pockets and could obviously foot the bill for the MA membership.

Since Amazon bought MGM for the properties that go along with the sale (Robocop, Legally Blonde, etc) and also the 4000+ catalog films would greatly benefit Prime studios. It basically puts Amazon in the big leagues as far as library - far far more than Netflix for example. So now they can be considered a true Hollywood studio and not just an outsider.

My original thought was that Amazon would 'wall up' the library quite a bit and not be interested in selling it as transactional purchases. But then I reconsidered....
Since they are now in the studio leagues they may want to look like the other ones, and cough up the cash to join MA. Especially since they are already an MA retail partner. It will make them a complete package so to speak, with all bases covered as far as getting their owned library out there.

That seems like good strategy to me, but time will tell if a top exec over there agrees.
