James Bond - No Time To Die - Digital Redeems Only For Apple TV ???

    Wait what !?!

Is this the early days of digital codes all over again ?

I get that MGM isn't part of Movies Anywhere. Been then Universal is distributing and you earn points with Universal for buying it.

But you can only redeem at Apple and only watch at Apple.

    COME ON ! !

It’s been the same with STX titles distributed by Universal for a while. I’d much rather have apple as the option if they’re only going to do one because at least you get the free 4K upgrade.

I buy 4K disc anyway so there is no free 4K upgrade in that case. Since I have over 3000 titles on Vudu including MGM and Paramount; having it only on Apple isn’t the best thing.

At least all the old Disney titles that were Apple only from back in the day finally made it to Movies Anywhere and this Vudu.

      This is just going backwards.

The part that's literally the most baffling about this is that Universal OWNS Vudu.
You would think they would want to guide customers to their own platform.
They paid $100's of millions for Vudu, and then force customers to redeem at iTunes.
I'm no business advisor, but that seems like a stupid strategy.

The mgm universal distribution deal just began in 2021. As far as I remember any mgm title that previously had a digital copy was redeemable at Vudu. But those were during the period when 20th century fox was handling their distribution.

Amazon is buying mgm so it's possible in the near future no mgm titles will have digital codes at all.

I would hope that MGM would participate in Movies Anywhere since Amazon is a member...

No, I have several MGM titles on Blu-ray from Universal over the last several years that came with iTunes codes: The Hustle, Operation Finale, and the animated Addams Family are three that come to mind. Prior to 2019, all MGM titles for home video were handled by Fox with the exception of those that were either co-productions with other studios (GI Joe, Tomb Raider) or a distribution deal was made with another studio. In 2019, MGM began distributing their new theatrical titles again, with new releases going to Universal and catalog remaining at Fox. In the summer of 2020, MGM ended their deal with Fox and moved all titles (both new and catalog) to Warner (Valley Girl and Bill & Ted Face the Music were the first to fall under that new deal). The latest Bond film, No Time to Die, however, fell under the old Universal deal as it was supposed to be released prior to the COVID pandemic, plus MGM held an auction prior to production to sell off the theatrical distribution rights, which went to Universal as well.

Any MGM titles released under Warner with digital codes will redeem on Vudu only, while anything under Universal was iTunes.

I guess NBC/Universal owns 70% cars f Fandango while Warner Media owns the remaining 30%.

But apparently Vudu is 75% NBC/Universal and 25% Warner Media.

I’m sure one of those is wrong somewhere but either is close enough.

And with that, you have to wonder why some WB are left off of Vudu. There was a post before, but can't remember the titles.
