    Roku Vudu App Interface Rebuild

Booted up the Roku Vudu app tonight and it looks like a complete rebuild.

App was slow to load. New Vudu splash screen. Completely different interface.

Can’t speak to additional or removed features. Need more time with it. Going to take a while to get used to.

Anyone get the new app and have any comments ?

Yeah, it sucks. We went from being able to view several rows of movies or tv shows at a time to 5 freaking movies. If Fandango wanted to kill Vudu, they found a way to do it. It's also far slower than the old app, which there was almost nothing wrong with. They killed functionality to try to make it look nicer.

One thing I’m already hating is the inability to hide functions bar after bringing it while the movie is playing. I mean sure you can wait for it to time out an go away but I hate that on any streaming app I use. Down and up buttons do nothing. And Back Arrow button just brings up the Rate screen which you then have to select done or dismiss; otherwise back arrow. All these of which basically do the same thing; taking to you back to the movie title screen.

There needs to be the ability to hide the functions bat during playback and not just wait for timeout.

it’s stupid the rate box pops up EVERY TIME you exit the movie. Even if you e already rated. It’s a waste of steps. Just add a rate button on the movie title screen like before. Or at least do have the rate window pop up if you’ve already watched the movie or even if you’ve already rated.

      ugh this new interface.

I prefer the Roku 'Movie Store' now.

Those who don't have it on home screen, you can go to Settings and add. It will show all your Vudu/MoviesAnywhere collection arranged in rows of 4.

You will miss the info display (4K, HDR etc.) during playback on 'Movie Store'.

I called vudu as soon as it started... thought the app froze. The 'VUDU -Fandango-" splashscreen stays up for 52 seconds... everytime....

As @flyfree432 mentioned... you can only see 5 movies at a time... that is a TERRIBLE design choice.

Pressing the BACK button when a video is playing, it does NOT remove the controls overlay... it instead just kills the movie... What??

With the collection of movies I have (12,000+)... and the inclusion of custom lists... I have multiple lists of wishlists. Unowned Disney, Unowned Hollywood Pictures, Unowned Touchstone, etc. The new update makes it virtually impossible to see if a movie/tv show is on sale. Not a fan.

VUDUs app was pretty streamlined already. Fandango's app was pretty awful. Seems the design team was carried over from before the merge.. and their designs are terrible and clunky... Not really happy.

              +1 as I mentioned prior.

Back arrow is the most common button in pretty much most Roku apps to hide the functions overlay popup. Those that doesn't allow up or down arrow to remove it. Vudu now has no option.

And again I hate getting the Rate / Dismiss window each and every time. It might as well be a popup add for Walmart sale items. So tacky.

The Movie store only has limit of 400 of your movies listed, buy a new one and the oldest falls off.

It's total f'ing copycat joke of every other streaming service out there.
It's like they poacehd all the non movie watching devs from the other streaming services to create the apps.
This was my biggest fear when I first heard that Fandango was acquiring them.
I thought we got lucky when very few changes were implemented post acquisition.
I thought they'd be intelligent enough to leave well enough alone, but clearly I was wrong.
                  I absolutely despise it.

Vudu has, or at least had beta testers prior to Fandango. I’m guessing maybe they don’t anymore; otherwise it would seem there would have been enough complaints to have derailed this launch.

The AppleTV app seems unaffected, for now anyway; but the Apple app has always been very limited - even without purchase / rent options.

Don't fix what's not broken. Old app was fine. Not perfect but fine. It didn't need an overhaul to this new garbage. It just needed some improvements. I'm sure our complaints will be ignored.

I was a beta tester. My number 1 complaint was how slow it was to load and how the interface was laid out. Apparently they didn’t listen or just don’t care.

Sorry to hear this Roku users. I've heard from others as well that it is terrible.

I just hope they leave the TV app as is. Overall, it is the most friendly & functional of pretty much all the streaming apps.

Why would they bother to beta test this and ignore most of the feedback?

Vudu just went from one of the best interfaces to one of the worst.

                              > Vudu just went from one of the best interfaces to one of the worst.

I can retrain myself on how to get to "My Vudu" content, and could probably come to accept even the limited 5 thumbnails view, and have found a few improvements in the new app (along with a few bugs) ... but the new scrolling behavior is flat-out disastrous.

Even on a low horsepower TiVo Roamio 4-tuner box, I can scroll through 1000 titles in My Movies in under 15 seconds by holding down the Channel Down button, with the handy, visible scroll bar on the right assisting in my alphabetic- or date-centric targeting.

With the new interface, it takes 1 1/2 minutes to scroll through 1000 titles, and requires continual release/re-press of the down-arrow button every 50 titles. The scrolling could even be considered straight-up broken given that you can't simply keep the down-arrow depressed to scroll through content; the next 50 titles aren't even polled and pulled-in until the down-arrow button is released.

VUDU did need to fix the scrolling behavior, but what was needed was improved hyper-scrolling ... to indicate the current alphabetic letter, release year or purchase month/year, depending on sort order, once hyper-scrolling mode was activated. The new VUDU app for Roku has effectively clamped a ball and chain on My Movies.
