    UHD upgrade cost

I've seen that Vudu has UHD format available now. Why does it cost so much for an upgrade? Shouldn't said upgrade be free? Sony at least has free ps5 upgrades for previous games purchased that was on ps4. I really don't want to have to purchase all my movies over again to be able to watch it on my new TV, nor do I have the extra income to do so.

You can still watch HD movies on a UHD/4K TV. Vudu is one of the few digital retailers that allow you to upgrade titles in your Vudu library with a simple purchase. It is much more convoluted on iTunes/Apple TV, basically having to either gift yourself or have a friend gift that movie to you, although iTunes is the only retailer that offers free 4K upgrades as long as you purchased it from them directly (in other words, not a code redemption). Those free upgrades, though do not populate outside of iTunes/Apple TV (so anything that is Movies Anywhere eligible that was purchased on iTunes would upgrade to 4K when it becomes available, but would remain as HD on other Movies Anywhere retailers like Vudu).

What I would recommend, if you want to upgrade titles in your Vudu library to 4K is to watch for that title to go on sale and purchase the upgrade then. I typically wait for the $5 sales to do that, but have bitten at the $7 or $10 sales depending on the title and how much better that 4K transfer is over the older HD one.

When you replace the DVD you pay full price for a Blu-ray you have to pay full price for the Blu-ray and when you replace that with 4K Blu-ray you have to pay full price.

Regardless it’s up to each studio and not Vudu.

Put the 4K you want in your watchlist and when it goes on sale purchase it and consider it the upgrade fee.

jeremymc7 with that kind of attitude, it makes me wonder how in the world you became a senior member. The OP was partially right we shouldn’t have to pay that much to upgrade the 4K. You can justify it all you want but $14.99 is the cost I’ve seen on most of them. But I’ve seen some go up as high as $30. This is ridiculous. A $5 charge would be reasonable and shouldn’t be no more then that.

You should contact the studios and let them know since they set the pricing

I'll tell you how he became a senior member: By constructively contributing to this forum for 13 years.

He gave you advice. Wait until the titles you want to upgrade go on sale. I've upgraded hundreds of titles to UHD at $5 a pop.
It's not like you're gonna upgrade everything all at once anyway, so be patient. Fandango At Home has sales every single week.
As for your claim about $30 movies, the only titles at that price point are brand new releases for sale before the discs drop. So, nobody is paying that for an "upgrade".

My advice to you is listen to the Senior Members here, and quit thinking you know it all.
If anyone's got an attitude, it's you.
