Re: Chromecast Ultra with 4k / HDR / Dolby Vision support !!

Shame this is STILL an issue. What I think is stupid, though, is why the VUDU app on Android TV (at least through Sony Android TVs; Sony A1E) is limited to a maximum of HDX despite owning a few titles in UHD. That is definitely on VUDU for not updating their app on this platform.

No wonder 4K movies aren't adopting as fast-- Too many cooks in the kitchen and no one wants to work together.

Pathetic and even more so pathetic that my original reply was deleted. Instead of correcting the problem Vudu ignores it.

I am not a mod and have no control of comments here, but your last one was unhelpful and somewhat rude, which is why I assume it was deleted.

AFAIK there aren't many other similar companies that provide as much direct interaction with customers as Vudu. We often can't provide detailed information on unreleased features in public forums, but that doesn't mean they are ignored or not in development.

Really, your enthusiasm is understood and appreciated! But remember, there are real people here who love what we do and want to provide as many features to customers as possible - so insults are not appreciated, and will make it far less likely you will get a response on this forum in the future...

As to the specific issues/questions from this topic - please be patient! There are some great new updates and features coming very soon and we will talk about them as soon as we can.

        Thanks,
        -Jake

          Hi Jake,
I share your sentiments, but this particular issue is exceptionally frustrating to those of us who have paid good money for a service that we're unable to use in its current form. Please remember we used to be able to enjoy our UHD purchases, now we cannot watch them. Bare in mind the cost if a high end TV and suddenly we're in for a lot of money.

I guess all any of us are asking for is a little more transparency. I for one appreciate communication, but on this particular issue I'm still in the dark.

With regards to new features that's fantastic, but often with software development, things that used to work sometimes break, and it seems like there's no rush to fix them because effort is now being spent on new ideas.

I appreciate your reply, especially the last two sentences, which had they been written earlier in the thread, would have saved myself and others further frustration. I actually love most of the Vudu service, but it often feels comments written in the forum are a waste of time. So I do thank you for what you wrote and hope to see more of it in the future.

If you are talking about the Chromecast issue, there isn't any change from my last comment: it's a CC firmware bug, Google is aware of it and hopefully will fix it in a future update. I posted detailed information about exactly what the problem is earlier on this topic. So, this is probably my last post on this topic until it's fixed, it as unfortunately there is nothing more for VUDU to do...

Re: Chromecast Ultra with 4k / HDR / Dolby Vision support !!

Question for you Jake: Why is it that the native VUDU app in LG OLEDs, and some streaming boxes like 4K Roku's can stream our UHD purchases, but my Sony A1E OLED Android TV only tops off at HDX? When will this be addressed and fixed, since that is VUDU's own app limitation. And what's odd is, I read people say the NVIDIA Shield can stream UHD, and that's Android TV, so why not port the same app over to Sony TVs or other Android TV boxes if that's the case?

Both the current Shield app and Sony app are actually "native" (non Android TV) apps (same with Roku). NVidia implemented UHD on their platform, Sony did not.

Hmm, that would be a good idea... as I said, please be patient

Re: Chromecast Ultra with 4k / HDR / Dolby Vision support !!

Having watched 2 UHD titles over the weekend via CC Ultra, I'm happy with my settings to view as a work around.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 looked great.
Fantastic Beasts has a rather questionable grade and look in places with excessive burnt-out bright spots (hence my initial apprehension, it's a shame I tried judging my settings using this movie).

I'm happy, and would suggest if you can adjust your TV, give it a try.

Note, Chromecast Preview firmware was just updated to 1.27:

I believe at least some issues have been fixed in this release. If you would like to join the preview program & try it out (and give Google feedback about any problems still found!), instructions are in the above link...

                        Hi,
I've just tested the new CC ultra firmware with my TV set to auto, and exactly the same problems as before. Massively burnt out, excessive contrast, poor colors.

                        My manual settings are fine.
For me at least this update has made no difference.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop though, it really is appreciated.

                        Regards,

Thanks for testing Owen, sucks to hear this doesnt fix the problem.

Also sucks to read that Vudu has just tossed their hands up in the air and points fingers.

Oh well, at least I still have physical media, which, yes, is still better quality than streaming

Movies Anywhere provides a perfect fix, those movies available in Google Play cast to CC ultra without any issues, that said Guardians Of The Galaxy on shows up in HD, whilst others are UHD HDR, as purchased via Vudu.

So much for it being a CC Ultra issue. I'm using Play Movies without a problem.

This thread is really disheartening. I tried to watch despicable me 3 UHD on my CCU from VUDU on my Samsung js9000 tv and it was completely unwatchable. The colors where horrible and the whites where overpowering.....I haven't experienced this issue with any other app. My Chromecast is running firmware 1.28

The fact that this has been an issue for months is really sad. Makes Vudu 4k on the CCU unusable for me

Netflix and Youtube don't do this. My TV only switches over to hdr mode when those apps actually cast HDR content. The tv was showing it was in HDR mode when trying to stream a 4k non HDR title from vudu....but what i don't fully understand how it's a Chromecast ultra problem that only affects Vudu, and not a problem with the Vudu app itself....if Netflix and YouTube work properly, why can't the Vudu app be made to work properly without a firmware update? Not trying to sound rude, but as a consumer....to me it sounds like Vudu is just trying to pass the buck, when the issue is indeed an issue with the VUDU app.

This whole have patience is a bit ridiculous too. I shouldn't need patience for a device I paid money for to do what is advertised to do.

This really sucks....the whole reason I bought this Chromecast was for Vudu.....since Vudu won't update my 2015 Samsung to vudu 4k (it's the only app on my TV that doesn't support 4k).....thinking a Chromecast ultra would finally give me Vudu 4k support on that tv....but NOPE.

I have buffering problems when playing UHD off Google Play.... not the case with any other app.... so not the fix, perfect or otherwise, for me.
