    Aliens Special Edition 4k

    FelipeF

Aliens (Theatrical) is now 4k at Vudu which I just purchased. The Aliens: Special Edition is HDX in the special features. Can Vudu please add 4k to the Aliens: Special Edition in the bonus features of Aliens (Theatrical)? Thank you.

    Yes, please!

Movies Anywhere now has the Aliens: Special Edition in 4k so hopefully Vudu adds it.

The Abyss Special Edition is also only HDX on Vudu currently.

Would definitely like to know if Abyss and Aliens Special Edition will be available in 4K digital. I would assume when the actual disks come out both the theater and SE will be in 4K on the disk. Will the digital?
I already own Aliens SE in HD and do not want to buy the theatrical edition, even if it is in 4K.

Bought The Abyss in 4K and was pretty disappointed the SE was not in 4K. Will be upset if VUDU adds the SE in 4K as a separate purchase later. The only reason I bought the theatrical version was it listed the SE in the special features and I assumed that would be 4K as well.

I think for most folks the special edition of Abyss is the superior version so I hope Vudu upgrades the file to 4k.

This has been under discussion on Reddit in the Vudu forum, so thanks for giving me a definitive note on what version SE is on Vudu. You think this is something, you should see the havoc Prime has been having with the movie, including pulling the 19.99 price tag and upping it to 25.99. I would expect SE to be the same quality as the theatrical release, or just won't buy it.

Forgive the ignorant question, but how can you tell it's in 4K? When I go to Movies Anywhere, it doesn't specify the resolution of the Special Edition, either before or during playback? For me, it shows up as a bonus feature just like on Vudu.

Open Movies Anywhere either signed out or in private browsing. Search for Aliens Special Edition and click on it. Scroll down until you see Additional Info. You'll see If Purchased In 4k and MA supports playback in HDR and Dolby Vision. The reason you need to sign out or open MA in private browsing, is because if you already have HD or SD, under additional info it will only display the resolution you have in your library. The SE in your bonus features of your theatrical most likely only plays HD.

Ah, thanks. I see it. So Aliens Special Edition in 4K is a separate purchase from the Vudu edition of Aliens 4K that includes the SE as a bonus feature. That is wildly inconvenient.

Just to clarify, many of us purchased the only option for The Abyss in 4K as it listed the Special Edition in the special features. We would not have bought just the theatrical version in 4K as almost everyone wants the Special Edition version. If VUDU offers the Special Edition version separately in 4K, those of us who purchased early should have the option to convert to that version. If that is not possible, the Special Edition version in the special features should be made 4K.

This is an issue across all retailers, not just Vudu. I would suggest contacting the studio (Disney) to politely address your dissatisfaction with how both "Aliens" and "The Abyss" (and any other James Cameron titles) were released on digital platforms.

Amazon Prime has both Aliens and The Abyss Special Editions in 4K. Not sure about other platforms. If they can, surely VUDU can as well.
