    Why?

I am sorry but I stream because I cannot go to the movie theater, but I know that the cost of a movie at the theater is not 19.99 to watch, so how come y'all charge so much for a movie that is not even that new. If you can explain to me convincingly, why you would charge that much when a movie theater only charges 11 bucks per ticket, I would appreciate it, because I am only renting it for the night, I can see $24 or $25 to buy but not that much to just rent it, dang?

Not that I agree necessarily yet here are the economics from my understanding.

For movies fresh from theaters or still in theaters the rental is that high to ensure income from that title in its theatrical run. If we consider a single movie ticket being $11+, and that many times when a movie is rented more than 1 person is viewing that rental, then that would be $11+ per person if at the theater.

Streaming rental companies would have no way to determine how many people are watching.

Older titles are often $6 or less to stream.

No movie theater near me charges anywhere as low as $11. Discount theaters showing movies that are already on Blu-ray are $15 and your first run titles are $25. Even a discount 1st show of the day is still $15-17.

The prices are also higher because you’re paying for a whole household where 1,2,4 or even a dozen people might be watching. The $20 is to average out what they might be loosing on a per $11 (cough) ticket per person.

An average household is more than two people so at $11 each for only two people $20 is cheaper.

You’re also paying for the convenience of not having to drive back and forth, deal with crowds, ability to pause the movie and watch it at your leisure or watch it over again during the rental period without having to buy another ticket. Say the next day before you hit 24 hrs.

Loads and loads of reasons why it’s $20-25 bucks and totally worth it for most people.

But then I pay $25 each month to go to the theater and can watch 3 movies a week every week each month.

Our AMC Theater in town literally charges $7 a ticket for adults, $5 for kids and $6 for seniors. One an hour away charges $10, and that includes dream loungers.

Theaters make their margins on concessions. You aren’t buying popcorn and drinks from VUDU so they get their profit from the rental.
If you can take the family to the movies for under $20, I’m impressed.

That's just it. Not everyone has a family. Some go to the movies alone and spend $5 on a ticket and nothing else. I know I never buy anything to eat or drink. I go to the water fountain if I need a slip. That's the issue with renting over streaming, they set the price as if everyone has a large family. If we did, then I would understand that price. I also know there's no way for them to know how big a family is or isn't, so I understand that too. But I never rent anything that's still in theaters, so I guess I can't complain... lol

There was once a streaming service years ago for people with disposable income and it had a camera that was required to be installed so it could see the whole room from the TV and they would track how many people were in the room and adjust pricing. But this was for same day releases and quite expensive.
