This could be huge for consumers...

I don't understand what other studios would want to join DISNEY Movies Anywhere. They need to work on getting all of their studios DMA enabled first (Hollywood, Touchstone, Walt Disney (Sister Act)).

The article specifically states the DISNEY name would be dropped

I think this is a move to enable them to do just that. Some of those Disney mini studios have R rated fare that they probably don't want under the Disney name. This would open things up for them.

Re: Studios to Join Disney Movies Anywhere Platform?

If this were to happen, what would happen to movies we've purchased on platforms that support UV but not DMA (like flixster or the like)?

Also, I would assume that the other disney movies anywhere benefits (eg, disney points & rewards, extras on movies) wouldn't go away.

To me, it just screams of another blow up like what has been happening with UV since they "updated" their site, then something similar happened with Disney. Disney should have got on the UV bandwagon instead of creating their own platform. Before anything, they need to get all of their titles switched over to their own service. Just my opinion.

You have to wonder if both services updating their sites recently is in any way connected to this...

If it were, then I'm fine with it, since it's already done. I just can't deal with another outage like that. I did see that DMA have started adding non-DMA (Hollywood and Touchstone titles) to their DMA site.

They are gone now, but some were added:

                  http://oi65.tinypic.com/ru5yiv.jpg

G.I. Jane is Hollywood Pictures here

Who Framed Roger Rabbit was also added then removed, and it is by Touchstone.

I hope they end up adding all their studios to DMA.

That was the sequel where she left the Army and became a Detective Inspector in London. Kept the shaved head, too!

So what happens to UV if studios join DMA? Will they allow users to merge their lockers?

If so, that would be yuuuuge. It essentially makes your library available on every platform where DMA is currently available.

Honestly, I think it would be better if Disney just joined UV at this point.
