UHD - Why its it a small fourtine to pay to upgrade from HDX movie you own?

    Folks
any clue why if I already own a movie in HDX format (say fast and furious 8) but want to enjoy the UHD version, I have to more or less pay the full price? Even if I went to by Guardians of the Galaxy 2 when it comes on in UHD format on disk from what I have read the digital version you get is the lower HDX.

Is there any reason why besides they can charge this and legal/marketing reasons? I love the version reasonable price VUDU gives us to do a disk to digital conversion. But wish they have something a bit more friendly for the UHD upgrade....

UHD is the premium format now and they'll charge out the *** for it as long as people are buying what they're selling

Thanks as I was thinking that was the case but just had to ask. I wonder if they did any market research as I would imagine if the price was right others would probably be willing to shell out some extra $$. But I would guess the right price is tough to nail down. But I suppose if I really cared about the quality I would have just gotten the UHD format on disk...but where is the fun in that

Here is hoping the they start putting UHD redeem codes in the movies we buy!

        They do...

See the below link as to who does and where to redeem (WB and Universal yes, Fox and Disney no). And even then it depends and what provider you redeem at.

The U/V codes for UHD titles are limited to certain studios like Universal and Warner Bros. Other studios like Disney, 20th Century Fox and others don't redeem in UHD when using the U/V code. It's also sometimes not consistent like Lionsgate is anyone's guess as to whether it will redeem in UHD or not?

            64 UHD
            792 HDX

              Bleeding Edge.

I remember paying $50-100 for a LaserDisc title back in the day which was substantionally more then DVD.

I'm already seeing UHD (on disc) prices dropping rapidly over what they were at launch. Espiclally for older catalog titles.

Vudu (and other streaming sites) is of course more then physical disc. But this was and is the same for blu-ray.
