    I think HD-DVD is about 15 Gig and Blue-Ray around 20 Gig.

Vudu is around 3 to 4 Gig.

    Yeah, it's damn good!

Thanks for your response redwein,it really makes sense that the Vudu would be making use of some serious compression for the HD broadcasts. I'm betting that some TV's would be better at hiding those artifacts than others too - which is why so many of the folks on these boards are saying how fantastic the picture has looked for them. I'm going to head into Bestbuy with the vudu sometime in the next couple of weeks so I can know for certain. During normal viewing conditions when theres a lot of on screen action the picture quality is awesome - im still a big fan of the vudu regardless of all this

One thing about TV rendering. Is there an option on your TV that deals with picture enhancement? What I have found with both my HD DVD and the VUDU is that option needs to be off for digial content. There is no need to enhance an already excellent source.

          Re: High def picture quality

I watched the first of the Bourne movies in HD last night. Although the pq was good it is not up to par with hddvd from my xbox.

On another note when I first turned on the vudu I had a pink screen. You could see the images but under a pink vail. I had a couple of friends over to watch. So Iwent to the system info button figuring I'd find the support number, not. So I had to boot up the pc and search the site for a number, which is not that easy to find. All ended well, I had to reboot the Vudu. They should post the number in the box somewhere.

Another thing I noticed while watching that when coming out of pause I got a loud cracking sound. This is the first this has happened.

Disclosure: I got te Vudu for $99

            Bill,

What type of connection are you using from the Vudu to your TV (HDMI, component, s-video, or composite)? The Vudu only sends the higher resolutions out the HDMI connection due to copy protection requiremens aka DRM. If you aren't using HDMI, you are not comparing apples to apples.

I agree with you about making the customer service number easier to locate. This has been a subject of some debate.

Between the pink screen and the crackle, I'd like to make sure you are not working with a damaged Vudu. What type of audio connection are you using (TSO, Digital Coax, or Stereo)? What make/model sound system are you listening through? Does this cracking sound happen every time you pause/resume?

Could you please post your Client ID (looks like 0x12ab) and the approximate time you experienced a cracking sound after a PAUSE? This will let the engineers examine your logs.

              Ed,

I am using hdmi to my Anthem D2 processor and hdmi out to my projector and tv.

The pink screen was a first, the tech I talked to seemed to know to reboot right away.

I discovered this am that the cracking sound was my amp blowing a channel. Luckly I have a 7 channel amp and only use 5, so I will try to recreate the situation later on when I get home.

I am at work so I don't have access to my client id and it is not available in my account page, another suggestion to add to the list.

On another note it is great having people here like you to help, thanks.

                Bill,

That's a darn good suggestion that your Client ID be shown in your vudu.com account!

When you get home, check what video resolution your Vudu is set for. It could be the HDMI handshake from your Anthem D2 is not working the way Vudu expects it to work.

                  Re: High def picture quality

I am using 1080p out to the Anthem which the anthem passes thru, I could feed it any resolution as the Anthem will upconvert to 1080p.

Could you try it once with the Vudu connected directly to the TV HDMI port?

Just a suggestion - the Vudu is fairly portable. I'm guessing you could temporarily put it near that projector to help with the diagnostic if needed. You may have to wait until the wife is out of the room.

The Vudu only really works with systems capable of 1080p at 24 fps. Make sure the TV can support that. Maybe that's a problem or maybe it isn't...

                              My system ID is 0x30e3.

I got excellant picture quality by switching to 1080p 60 in my Anthem. There was no pink screen at boot up.

The bad news is I am still getting the loud crack sound when coming out of pause. This is disturbing as I do tend to listen to it loud and I am afraid it will blow my speakers. Anyone else having this happen? My current solution is to hit mute before coming out of pause.

I have the same issue and have reported it to VUDU. My old receiver never had this issue by my new receiver has this issue. I'll make sure that the VUDU folks are aware that you have this issue also.
