    New Vudu onwers input

These may have been touched on before but, these are my immediate (1 weeks use) responses.

    1. The remote.
While cute and small, even though it appears to be designed to just fit in your hand, it is rather unergonomic and if you actually hold it as designed, my hand at least begins to hurt rather quickly. This is especially a problem with anyone who already has the onset of carpal tunnel.

The design makes it very unstable to set anywhere. If set on a table or moreso the armrest the slightest bump makes it just roll over and off whatever surface.

Proprietary control not compatible with any universal remote. This is usually a big no no in home theater devices but given the trend with Sony's PS3 as well it seems like things are going the wrong way.

    2. Lack of ability to control the content on your device. You should be able to delete either rented or purchased shows right away and there should be a space usage indicator. I fully expect this to be resolved in SW.

    3. Audio dropout on resume from pause/ff/rw. This may be an issue specific to Onkyo and a few other receivers but it seems like the Vudu is doing something iffy on restarting the audio stream.

    3. Now that there are HD version of movies, they should be listed together on the same movie description screen to prevent someone from picking an SD version when the HD is actually available.

I think this is everything I have taken issue with at this point.

So are you keeping the device or returning it? Your post seems to point out all the things that you don't like, but are what is your overal impression of the device?

I am keeping the device as overall I am happy with it. This post is more of a way of saying this device has a lot of potential but here are some things that could really be improved upon.

For the audio drop out you may want to turn "constant audio" to on. It is under advanced settings.

In terms of the remote, some people find it extremely ergonomic, others don't. Have no fear, IR control is coming soon. I can't say when, but I believe some of the folks from Vudu have stated that it is going to be something that will happen before long.

Is there an IR sensor in the box or do you mean in future boxes?

Constant audio doesn't fix the issue for me.

There is not an IR sensor, but there may be an IR add on in the future. Stay tuned...

I agree with you. I think it's an excellent start and has lots of future potential.

                1. Remote -- most people seem to like it, but you do raise valid concerns. I can also attest to the fact that it's unstable (although that's not a big deal to me).

                2. Content control/usage indicator -- these features have been requested many times and, from what I've read, are coming soon.

                3. Audio -- being addressed in a separate thread.

                4. SD & HD versions together -- requested already, don't think we've heard a response whether it's going to happen.

                  Re: New Vudu onwers input

Overall, I love the box, but I would love if my harmony 880 remote were able to control it. After being able to put away 11 remotes and use the Harmony it's hard for me to have another remote that I have to use. Hopefully they will remedy this.
Another issue is availablity of titles. While there is a lot available, Vudu needs to get more to stay competitive.

Buy the IR receiver from VUDU and your Harmony will work fine..mine does.

VUDU pretty much has the best MOVIE library of all VOD providers (there are always certain movies which are exceptions, but we are talking about overall picture). They are very behind on TV content though.

Agree - I'd love to see lots of new TV content. I'd really like to see them put up some of the HBO series...
