Well, to be fair, you don't really seem them on the vudu site for sale any longer. You used to be able to buy them online; then they changed that to promote buying them at Best Buy. Now they are pushing the embedded devices. So, I think rather than officially discontinuing them, Vudu is letting them fade away.

I actually have the STB and love it. But if/when I get a device for my new basement HD, it will probably be the bd390. You can kind of sense which way the wind is blowing on this.

I wonder how the new BD 590(not sure about model number) will work. It's supposed to come out later this year and it will include a 250GB hard drive. i wonder if VUDU titles will be able to be downloaded to it.

Wow I had not read about that yet. If the hard drive could be used for caching similar to the stb, that would (presumably) resolve the issues people are posting about streaming the hd/hdx movies. I may need to hold out for that.

                Re: BOXES

I have a set top box that I use with my projection system......I already have a BD player, do not need another one....What I hope is VUDU embeds their service into other manufacturers set tops or DVRs. ala Roku, Tivo, or the new box by Western Digital....If not, then I will not continue doing business with them when my box dies, as buying another BD player or TV for just the VUDU service would not be cost-effective for me....

Don't get me wrong, here....I LOVE the VUDU service, I have rented AND purchased a number of movies over the past year or so I have owned the box...The quality is the best of any VOD service bar none, the convenience as well.....The customer service/tech support has been great in my experience too, including support of existing set top boxes....I know its a start-up company that is still competing in a sour economy(kudos to them)...There is also news going around that Walmart is considering buying VUDU....This concerns me because they have tried online distribution two times before and pulled out.....

Bottom line, VUDU's business model is their business model, I hope it works out for them, but if it doesn't fit my needs, I'll do business elsewhere....

It's one of those opinionated days......

                Don
