Ability to "suggest" titles for others based on a given title?

Basically, the "suggestions" we get on VUDU seem hit-or-miss. It would be cool if we could "suggest" things that people who like thus and such movie would also like. For instance, I had a prior movie that was very similar to "The Atticus Institute," but couldn't recall its name. I was hoping that if I hit "similar" it would remind me of its name. Instead I had to search for it. It's called "The Quiet Ones." It would be cool if there were some functionality for people to 'suggest' things they think others would like. And maybe people could 'vote' on things suggested as far as "similarness," "also like / don't also like," etc. Or VUDU could 'screen' suggestions and only add the best or most relevant ones, etc.

One would think that with real-world data from users on which things are similar, maybe suggestions wold get better?

    Just a thought...

In some cases, the "Similar" titles just plain suck and aren't "similar" at all...

    Take for instance:

    http://www.vudu.com/movies/#!content...ate-Treehouses

When you look up similar, you EXPECT actually similar things.

Instead of giving similar things to "Ultimate Treehouses," you get aerobics videos, and wrestling videos, and baseball videos, and something about Deepak Chopra. SERIOUSLY??

When I'm looking at Ultimate Treehouses and click "similar," the first results should be: Treehouse Masters (also about treehouses, features same actor: Pete Nelson), then "Treehouse Guys" (also about building treehouses), maybe/maybe not "Redwood Kings" next (they sculpt wood and also build treehouses),

Likewise, if I'm looking at "Treehouse Masters" (about building specialty treehouses) and look up "similar," I want to see: "Ultimate Treehouses" (same actor, Pete Nelson, also about specialty treehouses), "Treehouse Guys" (building treehouses), maybe "Redwood Kings" (the build wood stuff and also do treehouses), "Pond Stars" (building ponds), "The Pool Master" (building pools), "Insane Pools: Off the Deep End," "Fish Tank Kings" (building specialty fish tanks), "Tanked" (likewise, building specialty fish tanks), etc.

If your "similar" page were actually "similar," you might score more wishlist entries and eventually more sales, as folks pick up what's on their wishlist.

As it stands, the "similar" page for "Ultimate Treehouses" has approximately 0 items on it that I'd actually want to buy or even watch (which is sad, given there's like 50 items on the list; okay, the 2 marvel superhero cartoon shows I might watch, but they're excluded 'cause they have NOTHING WHATEVER conceivably to do with "Ultimate Treehouses," so who knows why they're even on the list to begin with?). Not a wrestling guy, or baseball guy, or aerobics guy, or Deepak Chopra guy. It's all pretty damned irrelevant...

Again, it would be lovely if you guys would improve your matching algorithms, and/or allow users to add "suggestions based on ..." Or allow us to "rate" the "relevance" of your suggestions to the current item. Like "highly related/similar," "slightly related/similar," "not very related / similar," "not similar / related at all." I'm pretty sure that, over time, with one or the other of these options available, your "similar-ness" algorithms might get better, or at least pare out "non-similar" guesses, or demote the ranking of the "least-similar rate" title suggestions and promote the "most-similar rated" suggestions. And then, once better similarity was emplaced, you could run numbers on "people who bought this also bought" to further refine clustering results (so you'd have both "similarity-rating" AND "people who bought this also bought that" correlations to better cluster results). Yeah?
