    The Godfather and LOTR Trilogy

    Has anyone did a D2D of these to HDX? I'm just wondering how they look compared to the SD and if the upgrade fee is worth it.


    Yes i see they are in Dolby Stereo and not 5.1.

    Just to confirm... you are asking if 1080 lines is better than 480?

      No, they are asking if the difference is worth $3. Considering how many posts I've seen over the last few months that complain about one HDX transfer not being as sharp as others, I'd say that asking whether a particular movie is worth the extra expense for the variable increase in quality is quite reasonable, wouldn't you?

      Me, I'm planning on only converting discs to HDX, but that's because I have a 60" TV in the home theater and SD now bugs me slightly when I start watching it. At least if the HDX doesn't look very good we could ask them to re-encode it.

        I have the LOTR trilogy in HDX but to be honest, I haven't watched them yet. I can just jump to random spots and see how the quality is if I remember and have time soon.

        Also, I don't have the Godfather movies on Vudu (yet). But I do know that Godfather II is currently gone from Vudu because it's getting reencoded.

          If the movie has it watch and compare the "2 Minute Preview" in SD and HDX. Don't watch the trailer as many seemed to be unconverted.

            Hello ...

            I have all three Godfather movies in HDX. Great picture in the HDX version. The SD version of the movies are good too. The Godfather and Godfather II are in Dolby Digital Stereo and the Godfather III is in 5.1 surround for the HDX/HD version of the movie.

            I've started purchasing some movies in the SD version if the HD/HDX audio in Dolby Digital Stereo. Depending on the movie etc. I figure why spend extra money for the movie when the movie isn't offered with 5.1 or DD+ audio. And there are some movies I've purchased that offer DD+ with the standard version of the movie? Which makes no sense to me but thank you for the better sound at a lower price. I'll take it.

            By the way ... The Godfather II is back.

            The scenes in Sicily now play with subtitles when the actors are speaking Italian.

                On Fellowship, can you jump to the part where they are running from orcs in the mines and see how good it looks. Supposedly HDX versions will downgrade video if there is no action then ramp up the bit rate during action scenes.

                Also can you look at your Two Towers info page and tell me if its in 5.1, its not available to rent/purchase so i cant see for myself. Thanks

                  Thanks for the heads up. I may make a trip for these since there is not a lot of scenes that require 5.1 anyway.

                    I have a variant of this question? Does anyone know if the copies of these movies are the extended editions?

                    I paid extra money and waited extra time to get the extended editions, and it's worthless to me if I can't convert the extended editions.

                    Nothing about "extended edition" is in any of the movie's title text when you search for LOTR.

                      They are not the extended versions. I also am choosing to wait because i have the extended dvds. They do offer the extended in SD to buy/rent but not for D2D.

                          Superman is now available D2D as well, but is also only available in SD. I think I'm going to wait and see if they finally make these available HDX. I'd hate to do it now, get SD and have them make HDX available. Pretty sure I'd be stuck with SD at that point.

                            Buy them in SD. I'm not going to spend another dime on HDX. Why should I pay 150% more for HDX, when I can only download or stream on my PC in SD. I was conned out of $50 in my first D2D HDX experience. I am not going to fall for the same trick twice.

                            But I would pay $6 to put my LOTR Extended Edition trilogy "in the cloud IF they are available on Flixster too. I'm not falling for that trick twice either.

                              The download is dependent on the device. PS3 can view HDX so it can download HDX. PC can only view SD so it can download SD. I dont think bluray players have 10+gb of free space to download anything like this. I streamed some HDX and I like it, i never downloaded though.

                              The whole thing makes sense, can you really see a HD/SD difference on your phone or tablet? Now pc i can see the frustration and a lot of people expressed this already, it would be great to stream or download hdx from pc.
