    Re: Walmart vudu promotions

There were a bunch of UV movies in the $5 bin today. I picked up Hugo.

Pretty disappointing, a digital copy on VUDU would've been nice.

So one is to interpret that the digital copy is more than likely going to be an iTunes copy ?

I would have thought that since Vudu was jumping on this pre-order offer, they would have been offering a Vudu digital copy. If that's not the case then there is for sure no reason to do this pre-order.

I agree. I will check into this tomorrow morning at my local wm. I was really hoping for VUDU / UV copies of all 3 iron man movies. I'm going to stick with my steelbook preorder if there are no digital copies

I think you get an actual VUDU digital copy with this pre-order.

When I entered the pre-order code it gives you Iron Man 3 icon and it says "Available 12/01" I assume that is a placeholder date. When you click on the icon and it says own HDX, just like any other movie you own.

Is that for the exclusive content or the movie? I'm still on the fence with this one, but a vudu copy would definitely push me towards a purchase.

It looks like the movie. The icon for the movie is next to the exclusive content.

Could you post a screenshot? Interested to see what it looks like. I will pre-order for sure if I get early access to the Vudu copy. I usually get my Walmart Pre-orders 2-3 days before release which is also an impetus for me to pre-order.

I'm a bit surprised that no one mentioned this yet,

It sounds like they are saying you get a bluray preorder with the purchase of a movie ticket. Not sure if its an additional cost or just a bonus for buying the ticket at walmart.

more info but still confusing wording

Sounds to me like they are just giving you a code that allows you an early pre-order which is kinda pointless when you think of it. It's not like they will run out of Blu Rays or HD downloads if we don't pre-pre-order it It's a blu ray, not the next Playstation or X-Box.

From what I am reading this just gives you first priority to pre-order the Blu-ray/DVD Combo pack. I agree that it isn't clear, but from what I am seeing you don't get a copy of the movie just for buying a ticket. You DO get some perks, but it doesn't look like the movie itself is one of them. Good news is, this is a WB release, so you're pretty much assured that it'll be UV. Still something to keep an eye on and try to get clarification from VUDU.

You are correct, you just get the opportunity to buy a preorder. That is lame, to preorder the preorder.

I still intend to do it, given that a 7 PM showing of the movie works for some of my friends that never come out to the theater to watch movies with me.
And as it happens, I'll get a shot at whatever the "exclusive film content" on VUDU is going to be. I just don't like that the language of the preorder seems to be Bluray/dvd combo pack, OR Digital HD copy, whereas all of the other promos are DHD copy early (normally) and then 2 weeks later the combo pack. The novelty of the promo will be used up if they force the choice.

                                Re: Walmart vudu promotions

I go into the WalMart Photo counter to do my D2D transactions. I go every two weeks when I get paid.

This past Friday, it was clear as good crystal the DVD/BluRay Disc selection had changed. The purple UV logo was plastered on an amazing percentage of the titles on their shelves. This was not the case two weeks prior.

Also, they had broadened their selection and are pushing some very aggressive pricing. This includes title bundles and also the $5 bin. These all had the same spike in percentage of the purple UV sticker on them. I would often rummage in the $5 bin and this past Friday when I did, I found about half of the titles with purple UV stickers.

I was also stunned to see a purple UV sticker on an animated TV series. This was the first time I had seen UV on the DVD of a TV series. The spike in that purple UV sticker was obviously a concerted effort by WalMart to kickstart ubiquitous acceptance of UV.

Also, it was remarkable to realize that I can get titles added to my UV locker for much less then the EST method, and in the process get a new-in-box physical copy of the title. $10 for a multi-title product with UV redemption vs EST of each title for $10-$15 per title. Crazy!

As a UV enthusiast, this was a very encouraging sign that ubiquitous UV acceptance may come sooner then expected.
