Re: Disc to Digital Title List

We Were Soldiers and The Mission can be converted to HD in Flixster's Disc to Digital. They port over to Vudu as SD, but are HD in Flixster and CinemaNow's apps. There is a definite difference - compared the first couple minutes on Vudu vs. CinemaNow. Not sure why Vudu can't have HDX.

I've been using Flixster more often after getting frustrated with Vudu not working on movies. I know it costs more and blu-rays aren't available to convert, but it works if I want to watch a movie in HD that day I have on DVD that doesn't work in Vudu. Also, if a movie is unavailable for conversion, the app will tell you when it is available. They have a few movies not available for conversion through Vudu, specifically Lawless.

Thanks for the excellent explanation. This explains why Papillon, We Were Soldiers, Outland, The Mission, and Cobra have exhibited the same behavior. All of these titles are available for blu-ray conversion and show up as available in HD in the blu-ray column of the spreadsheet, but are only currently available in SD-quality via D2D.

Do you have any idea why titles like these have yet to be made available in HDX? Does it have something to do with the studio that released these titles not wanting to make HDX quality available? This sounds silly, but there's got to be a legitimate reason why HDX has been (seemingly) withheld up to this point.

You can actually convert Blu-rays to D2D in Flixster. You don't received a discount, that is it still costs $5, but if you have a Blu-ray but not DVD for a particular movie you can still convert that movie to digital.

That's news to me. Though I knew both Flixster & CinemaNow allowed DVD-to-HD conversions (I've done a handful), I thought Vudu (in-home or in-store) was the only place that allowed Blu-ray-to-HD conversions. I also thought Vudu2Go was the only D2D app that supported Blu-ray drives at all.

The good news is, if you can get the title as HD at another UV retailer (a) it will import as HDX at Vudu if they have it, and (b) if Vudu gets it in HDX later on it'll upgrade automatically. If it's currently available in HD at another UV retailer but only in SD at Vudu, by all means get it at the other retailer; if you buy in SD at Vudu you'll have to buy it again to get HD.

This is what it says at the Flixster site:

"Disc to Digital is available for DVD movies from the above studios. Television shows and Blu-ray discs are not supported at this time."

rdodalak, have you actually converted BD's or are you just speculating?

Yes, it's always said that but I've converted before. I don't want to get this thread locked but this "feature" was first reported by me in this now locked thread.

Unlike vudu it's best to ignore other services faqs since they don't update them like vudu does.

I downloaded it and tried a blu-ray disc and it said "At this time only retail DVDs are supported".

That's the standard message if a disc isn't recognized. Which disc did you try?

I tried the retail Funny Farm/Spies Like Us BD combo pack today, and got the same message.

I tried "16 Blocks" from the original retail version and not a burned movie.

Here are a few that work:

                          A League of Their Own
                          Scooby-Doo! and the Samurai Sword
Scooby-Doo! and the Loch Ness Monster

I'll check some others later on when I get more time.

EDIT: Here's one more people might have:

                          The Fugitive (Remastered)

Anyone else try the B-movie "Dinoshark" from Anchor Bay (UPC # 013132285092). It's on the Disc to Digital list, but my DVD comes up as unrecognizable and asks for the name of the movie. Then something about them verifying the movie and contacting me later. This has been the case with at least a dozen of my DVDs and Blu-rays, and I've never heard anything in response.

Also interested to know if any of you had any success after getting that message?

Has anybody tried the Muppets from Space blu-ray?

It's on the list as eligible but when I try the blu-ray or the DVD that comes with it, it just says it's unrecognizable.
