Do we qualify for 50% off when we convert 10 discs at Wal-Mart?

Re: Do we qualify for 50% off when we convert 10 discs at Wal-Mart?

It would be nice if the discount applied to in store conversions too but my guess as to why it doesn't has to do with two contributing factors: 1) Vudu wants people to test out their D2D app before the official rollout (what better way to get people to participate by offering them an incentive) and 2) someone has to pay for the salary of those WM employees.

Now, I would love to see Vudu make the current promotional pricing permanent.

Permanent prices would be awesome. (Along with Disney)

I can understand wanting to test out the D2D app. The thing is though, I would assume even if the pricing was the same in the store, most would still rather do it at home. You don't have to drive there and have a nice Wal-Mart stamp on your disc. Also, Wal-Mart didn't hire additional people just to stand and wait for people to bring in their movies for conversion. There are the same number of employees at the same salary, they just have an additional item to offer.

I actually think it would be a good thing for Wal-Mart to offer. It would get people in the store, walking all the way through to the photo department. More than likely that person will probably buy something else while in the store.

Re: Do we qualify for 50% off when we convert 10 discs at Wal-Mart?

I wish this were the case. I tried the 10 discs of Star Trek movies from home, the Harry Potter movie collection from home, as well as nearly two dozen others from home. Ended up having a $120 bill at Walmart for the D2D conversion. The person at the counter suggested that I do them from home to save 50%, or $60. I explained that I tried doing that and that the majority of these discs did not work. (I admit I did not try every one of them, but after counting 25 that didn't work, I just brought the rest in.) The manager at Walmart said he could not give me 50% off the order but suggested I contact Vudu because they likely could. He continued to apologize and stated that he's heard the complaint from other customers. The at home computer software is designed to be cheaper and easier to use but has ended up being faulty and frustrating. I did open a ticket and explain the situation and errors on the Vudu software but was told "Unfortunately this discount does not apply to in store conversions at this time." Sure, I chose to spend the money, I don't deny that. Again, I only went in the store because the software does not work as advertised, resulting in being charged an extra $60 bucks the last trip. My ticket is still open regarding this. I will update everyone if they are curious how it is resolved.

On top of that, you have to drive there and hope you get someone familiar with he process....then get a nice stamp on your discs.

I also wish HD-DVD's could be found with D2D at home. I really don't want a Wal-Mart stamp on my nice HD-DVD collection.

I have done over 100 titles since the 50% promotion started. I never did any before.
It would be nice if they did 50% off in store for the discs that have error messages when tried at home. Because of an error in the software and discs not being recognized, they need to be brought in to the store and yes, hopefully you get an employee that is familiar with how to do D2D, and added that way. I've had a lot of discs not show up at home and then was unable to get the price offered for doing it at home.

In the meantime, it's an easy enough fix on the customer service side, if not for the IT side of the software.

Your situation is the same as mine as I went to the store as well and didn't get the discount. I have a support ticket and will update as well.

              Hello Everyone,

If you take your D2D titles to Wal-Mart for conversion, VUDU Customer Care will not apply a credit to your VUDU account for the difference. This deal only applies to the in-home D2D beta.

We're aware of this but it still seems like the 2 companies are completely separate and not all part of Walmart as it should be? Since they are the same company, Walmart should be able to give the discount since they're not working on the VuduToGo application and probably won't work before the end of the promotion?

That's the opposite of what folks are saying on the forums at bluray.com. Over there there is a thread about the home beta and someone says she was able to get CS to credit her 50% by sending them a scanned copy of her receipt. I guess it's a matter of who you talk to at CS. I haven't tried it (and probably won't bother). I only have about 10 or so blu rays that aren't reading and 2 SD dvds. Not worth all the trouble for about 6 bucks.

I have 48 so it would be worth it to me. I guess I'll have to call Vudu support again.

I already have a ticket in since around 6/16 so I think I'll wait until closer to the middle of August to see if there has been any progress first?

Yeah. I have about 100 HD-DVD?s and most have the ability to be converted. Unfortunately the only way to do these is go to Wal-Mart at $2 a pop. If I could do them at home with my HDDVD drive that would be awesome. It would save me around $50, time, and a Wal-Mart stamp on my prized collection. I could even look past the wonderful stamp if I could get them added to my disc to digital cart.

I have never had a DVD stamped by Walmart...NEVER!

I can understand your dissatisfaction with your discs not being recognized by our beta program. Our In-Home D2D beta is still in the infancy stage and we realize there are fixes that need to be released before the full version is launched to the public. The discounted price for the beta is being offered as an incentive to help us test the beta. This is the reason the discount is not being offered for titles converted at Wal-Mart.

As I said previously, VUDU will not credit you for titles converted at Wal-Mart.

Seems like there is some discrepancy between what you're telling us and what others have received from Vudu support?
