There's a difference between "limited to" and "recommended" numbers. Peak bitrates up to 15mbps are possible on the Roku 2, and lots of people sustain bitrates of 9Mb/s. http://forums.roku.com/viewtopic.php...=50123#p340677

You keep blowing that horn that it cant do the highest quality.

FINE Offer something at least SD! More streaming competition is better.

EDIT: Netflix 1080P HD content uses a 4.8Mb/s rate. A little more than half the 3 bar HDX bit rate and just slightly faster than the 1 bar HDX 4.5 Mb/s bitrate.

Re: VUDU on the Roku Player

Count me in as a vote for VUDU addition to Roku.

As for "power" issues on the ROku boxes, that does not stop SD from being added until HD can be perfected. I'll take what I can get at this point.

Adding Vudu to Roku would be a HUGE plus.

Maybe it is coming though, I have heard of Walmart ads that show Roku boxes on sale in July and they show the Vudu logo on them.

Maybe they arent even considering it with the other boxes that are coming out supporting it. BlueRay players etc.

Re: VUDU on the Roku Player

I joined this forum just to add my voice to the rest crying out for Vudu to support Roku. Like others have indicated in this forum, I too rent movies from Amazon to play on one of my three Roku boxes. I would much prefer to rent from Vudu since many more titles are available in surround sound and streams include 1080p. Vudu also has a larger library of titles from which to choose. To those who say the Roku devices can't handle Vudu's highest bitrates I say who cares. I really don't understand this argument. Even if we accept this statement as fact why should it make a bit of difference? Vudu limits it's steams to SD on computers and tablets so I don't see how anyone could make a valid argument blaming Roku hardware limitations for not developing an app for it. My living room TV is 1080p but my three other TVs are all 720p and I'd like to be able to watch Vudu on all of them.

I currently access Vudu on my PS3 and LG Blu-ray player but I would much prefer to use the service through Roku. As it stands, I only use Vudu to get 99 cent specials, otherwise I rent from Amazon on Roku. It just amazes me that Vudu won't put an app on the most popular internet streaming device in this country. Come on, Vudu, please bring an app to Roku.

You are not addressing what I believe is a key point, the Roku hardware is very inexpensive and processing power limited, this is necessary to keep the price low. Vudu requires greater processing power than the lesser quality streaming services, not all 1080p is the same, bitrates are greater, audio codecs used requiring different processing abilities. I simply don't believe the Roku can handle Vudu, further support for this it is a very popular box, I believe maybe the biggest seller or second biggest seller among the streaming boxes, and yet we haven't seen it. What other reason could there be?

I use Google TV because I like it much better than the other streaming boxes, it also doesn't have Vudu yet but since hardware is the same or very close to Boxee, I believe there is no Vudu on Google TV for other reasons. I use a PS3 or LG BD390 for Vudu.

This should hopefully get your sound up and working. If you weren't able to complete the movie before it expired, please let me know.

Just curious, what is the actual data rate of the 1080p video and how much can the Roku 2 buffer?
I have a T1 which is 1.544 MBPS, I don't think it was quite keeping up with the video but it seemed to play ok if I paused the video to let the buffer pre-fill. Haven't tried watching any whole movies yet though.

Re: VUDU on the Roku Player

                            Okay.

So Roku users need to use Stereo only instead of Dolby Digital if their receiver is more than a couple years old. Nice to know that now.

So, this evening I wasted my credit on Cabin in the Woods... had some friends over to show off the Roku and the slick new Vudu App. Used the credit, did the speed test (15mb connection, no problem)... trailer works fine, but.. movie has no sound.

Spend 30 minutes rebooting, plugging, unplugging screwing around with apps and TVs and receivers and software but nothing works.

So... we went to Redbox and got the Blu Ray for $1.62... enjoyed the movie with friends in glorious 1080p with digital surround; saved over 66%. Now that friends are gone I google the problem to find it's not just me, it's WIDESPREAD.

I just don't understand how this service will be successful if it's thrice the price and not easily accessible. Good luck with that.

(Annoyed because I would likely use it if it was (a) less expensive and (b) worked.)

Re: VUDU on the Roku Player

It's not VUDUs or Roku's fault that your didn't understand what was required. DD+ has been included on modern receivers for over 5 years...when you use one of the newer codecs (DD+, DTS-Master, etc), you either need to have your player convert and send the processed signal over the 5.1/7.1 analog outs of your player to a receiver/processor, or yes, you need a receiver that can do the decoding internally after receiving the signal via the HDMI cable. If you have an outdated receiver, then just you can still get surround sound by engaging the dolby pro-logic function.

I've been using VUDU for over two years now, and when I found out they have a Roku channel I was thrilled. I could either complain that VUDU's awesomeness isn't compatible with my 2 year old Roku box, or I can be excited and invest a mere $79 in my entertainment and pick up a Roku2 box so I can enjoy it. Guess which one I'm choosing?

Honestly, just go get a new receiver....I've seen plenty of them for under two bills that have allllll the codecs you could ever want.

I have an AppleTV box in my office. I really want to be able view Vudu in the office, but not on the computer screen, on the wall mounted LED 1080p flatscreen. The TV does not have built in apps.

Is the Roku box my best option to add Vudu to my office TV? If so, which model is highly recommended?
