What's a while? If you had it before today then yeah, you've got a box in the beta pool. I'd suggest you contact Kristin again and get your login info for the beta site...

I can't say exactly how long I have had it, as I only noticed the 1.5 a few days ago. Has it been out long in beta?

Hi everyone, I was hoping you could answer one question regarding the rentals in vudu. I live in Japan, and can't use one, but I would be very grateful for your guidance and insight.

After rentals expire, whether after 24hours after playback or 30days after rental, do you have to manually delete the data from your hard drive? Does the box do that automatically? (rentals are downloads too, so it got me wondering)

Re: 1.5 Per Gizmodo.com article: extended rentals??

Welcome, Yuni! Rentals that have expired are considered free, unreserved space that does not need to be deleted to be re-used by the Vudu. However, I know that the Vudu sometimes keeps the movie in its entirety for a short while, since I've re-rented movies a day or even a week later and the progress bar immediately showed the whole movie as downloaded; my guess is that as long as you can extend your rental and you are not low on disk space, the movie will be kept intact, but I have no basis for that speculation.

Since you don't have a Vudu, you may not be aware of this, but some purchased (not rented) content can be archived, meaning deleted from your hard disk and re-downloaded when you want to watch it again. A great feature, but apparently some license owners don't like people re-downloading without getting paid again, so it's not available for all content.

I would imagine that the Vudu is going to keep everything you have rented on the hard drive so that it can peer that content to others. It won't start taking content off the drive until it fills up and you have to delete something in order to purchase/rent something else.

Well, that depends. What *I* rent might not always be the most efficient thing to seed to everyone else. I would think a lot of Besides, I am pretty sure I re-rented a movie a few weeks later and it had to download again.

There's probably some very smart load-distribuition going on behind the scenes that decides how many boxes need to seeded with content for the network to be able to deliver everything smoothly.

I believe VUDU has several patents dealing with it.
