Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is also in the wrong aspect ratio on Amazon Instant Video, although Flixster has it in the correct 2.40:1.

Two more to add to the list:

The Fearless Vampire Killers should be 2.35:1, but is pan-scanned at 1.85.

Anna Karenina (1935, Greta Garbo) should be 1.33 pillarboxed, but is stretched to 1.85.

Add Amelie to the list. It should be 2.35:1, but plays in 1.78:1.

Just updated the list with the new addition and the removal of Bewitched. The film now shows up under my "Recently Fixed" category. Thanks again everyone for the assistance!

Re: The "Incorrect Aspect Ratio" Thread

Some more to add to the list:

The following were shot and exhibited 2.35, but are panned and scanned at 1.85 on Vudu. In all cases, the opening titles are in the proper aspect ratio but the rest of the film is panned and scanned.

The improper aspect ratio is on all of the versions (SD, HD, HDX), so this is a goof from the studio:

It Happened at the World's Fair (Elvis)
Live a Little, Love a Little (Elvis)
                Speedway (Elvis)
                Tickle Me (Elvis)

A follow-up on my previous post:

-Anna Karenina (1935, Greta Garbo) should be 1.33 pillarboxed, but is stretched to 1.85. This only impacts the HDX version - the SD and HD versions are in the proper 1.33 aspect ratio. I opened a ticket with Vudu on this and it's been forwarded to their "quality control department". Probably a mistake when Vudu encoded the HDX version for their service.

-The Fearless Vampire Killers should be 2.35:1, but is pan-scanned at 1.85. This impacts all three versions (HD, SD, HDX) so the master came from the studio in the incorrect format.

I think what's happening is that some of the studios are using the HD tv cable broadcast masters for Vudu and other streaming/download services.

It's a shame that the Elvis flicks are panned and scanned - they play much better in their original widescreen format. (And some of those Elvis movies need all the help they can get to make them look as good as they can.) "Speedway" was shot at the Charlotte Motor Speedway and the panning and scanning really detracts from the real NASCAR footage in the film.

Re: The "Incorrect Aspect Ratio" Thread

                  Two more titles:

                  Some Came Running (Sinatra)
                  The Tender Trap (Sinatra)

Films were originally 2.35, but are panned and scanned at 1.85 in Vudu. Opening titles are 2.35, but rest of the films are panned and scanned. Improper aspect ratios are on the SD, HD, and HDX versions of the films.

Re: The "Incorrect Aspect Ratio" Thread

                    And two more:

                    -The Train Robbers (John Wayne)
Proper aspect ratio is 2.35, but the film, including the titles, is panned and scanned to 1.85 on the SD, HD and HDX versions.

It really hurts the action sequences in the movie - in the opening, as Ben Johnson waits for the train, you just see the tracks and his boots, rather than the full shot of him waiting on the porch, for example.

-McCabe and Mrs Miller (directed by Robert Altman)
Proper aspect ratio is 2.35 - panned and scanned on Vudu to 1.85. Opening credits are in proper aspect ratio, rest of the film is panned and scanned. The issue is seen in the SD, HD, and HDX versions of the movie.

This is completely unacceptable. Besides ruining the compositions and scope of the film, Altman and his cinematographer used low light and push processing - the film already has grain, but with the pan and scanning, the grain looks the size of golf balls.

I've purchased just over 100 titles as part of the Disc to Digital program - of those, ten have the wrong aspect ratios.

                    Ten percent?

I just tried 12 Monkeys on a TV and the web browser and it looks correct. What device are you using?

It looks like only the SD version of Cube is screwed up. It's been incorrectly squished to 2.35:1, so everyone looks round and pudgy.

The HD and HDX versions are in the correct 1.85:1.

AH. Ok. I do own it in HDX, but I was watching on my Ipad and Ipad always plays the SD version.

Still, I'd like to see it fixed in the SD, too.
