We Love Vudu...But Would Love To See These Changes!

My boyfriend and I discovered Vudu when we were looking for a movie one night and didn't want to wait for it to arrive from Netflix. We have Netflix and Amazon Prime and we also use the free content on Hulu, but Vudu's convenience is second to none with what we have found.

That being said, there are some things I would love to see changed on Vudu:
Categories that I can create - I love Disney, Dreamworks, and Adam Sandler. My boyfriend loves westerns and war movies. Together we enjoy action flicks, horror films, and comedies. I would love to be able to make separate categories or libraries for the movies that we own, so that I could have one for him, one for us, and one for myself. That way, neither of us has to scroll through all of the movies we own to find what they are looking for.

Loyalty Program - Some sort of program where you are rewarded for every so many rentals. Like rent 6 and get a free rental, or something like that.

Discount Plans - A program where there were different discount tiers, like say 6 rentals for $15 instead of $18 so that you save money when you frequently rent from Vudu (which would be an incentive for us to rent from Vudu rather than Amazon)

Gift Cards - Available at Walmart, since that's the big partner store, and on the Vudu website, to introduce friends and family to Vudu without them having to use their credit card.

Promotional Codes - The ability to use more than 5 $5 promotional codes per account. We buy a lot of physical DVD's that come with these $5 promotional codes for Vudu, yet we can't redeem them all, because it's limited to five per Vudu account. We would open another account, but our Vudu is linked to our Roku, so we don't want to mess anything up. We end up giving them to friends and family. Why should we miss out just because we purchase a lot of DVD's? It's like you are being punished for purchasing more.

Rental Extensions Available For Purchase - My boyfriend works a full time job. Sometimes it's well after 6pm when we finish a movie. We stop and start movies a lot, which is one of the reasons we prefer to rent them, rather than go to the theater. There are many times when we have started a 2 hour movie at 6pm, gone to bed at 7pm, and had to pay to rent the movie again the next night to finish it. I would love to see some sort of discount for additional nights rentals. When you are late returning a library book, you pay a late fee per day, video rental stores work the same way, I would love to see Vudu do something like this. They aren't losing bandwidth or anything because we are still watching the same movie, and we would gladly pay up to half the price of the rental ($1.50) to get an additional night, rather than having to pay the whole $2.99 again to finish a movie.

Incentive to buy a movie after renting it - We will often rent a movie to see if we like it, and then turn around and buy the movie. However, we can often get the movie cheaper on DVD on Amazon or Walmart's website rather than on Vudu. It would be nice if Vudu offered some sort of discount on a movie that you decide to purchase after renting it.

This particular point above bothers me a lot. I simply don't understand the 24-hour time-line limitation.

It's a studio restriction, sorry. Luckily there are more and more rentals that have a 48 hour window once you start watching, and hopefully it will continue in that direction in the future...

Thank you Jake. It makes more sense now.

I'm sure it's complicated, but doesn't sound like a win for the studios either. There would be far more rentals if the minimum was 48-hours. 24-hours makes sense if you are in a hotel; not a home with real life going on.

        Peace

I'd like to see a 24 to 48 hour extension as well. And if I rent a movie, then decide to buy it, it would be very nice if the rental price went towards the purchase price.

I'd really like to see a CART added to the movie purchase store. That way I don't get dinged for taxes each time I purchase a movie AND I can buy more than ONE at a time if we want to!

I would like to see an HDX upgrade option if you own a movie in SD. There are a number of movies that are only available in SD that I am hesitant to convert via Disc to Digital since I would prefer to have the HD version. A $2.50 -$3.00 upgrade charge option would make me feel a lot better about going ahead and converting them. I understand where this next part might not be an option, but it would also be nice to be able to upgrade some of the SD free movies I've gotten from other vendors.

I would love to see an "SD upgrade" option. I've got a string of movies that are in SD because they came from the early days of Ultraviolet that I'd love to update. I know Sony gives you the option straight from their website, but I don't know if that's just a knee-jerk sale that they try to do when you redeem or whether you can go back and do it.

I was also looking through my oldest purchases yesterday, and I had forgotten how many movies I have in SD. I would probably upgrade them all, even ones I'd probably never watch again, if the prices were on par with D2D. But I'd never buy the HDX version of any of them at regular price.

I have at least 100 SD films that I'd upgrade for 2 or 3 dollars each! That's a lot of extra money!

When downloading my movie to my PS3's hard drive, I'd like the option of picking whether I download in SD, HD, or HDX.

Since I don't have a 1080p projector/TV, I don't need to download in HDX (HD would be just fine) but I don't have the option of downloading in anything but HDX. It would save me space on my hard drive if I could just pick HD.

We filed this feature request awhile back. I'll update it to see if we can get any movement.

We had bought a lot of the same movie about 3 years ago and sent them movies out in gift bags to my twins' friends ande buy a lot of physical DVD's that come with these $5 promotional codes for Vudu, yet we can't redeem them all, because it's limited to five per Vudu account. took the $5.00 codes off for ourselves thinking it was a win-win situation. Then we left for a trip and when we came back they froze both our VUDU account (Mine and my Finaces). When I called in to ask why they said that a lot of people were not legitimately getting the codes and that if we sent in the receipt for the movies we bought they "MAY" add the codes back on, but from that point forward they were limiting what you could put on your account. I agree that 5 codes for the lifetime of the account is rediculous, especially when they keep putting codes on newer movies. I think that if you have a code and a UPC or UV code it should automatically allow you a credit of $2 to $5 depending on the newness of the movie. This is one reason we haven't used out VUDU account in forever, but now that we are getting rid of cable and Prime and Redbox streaming want a monthly/yearly fee and then more for some movies, VUDU seems back in the mix again as a great option. (We also love Crackle for the older movies) We have netflix and Hulu Plus as well.

I am thinking that theft of codes and the over use of codes is why they restricted it, but I think they went a little too strict with it.

                            1. Would be nice to be able to arrange your movies as the original poster stated. I have hundreds of tittles and the set ways to arrange them is not enough. Would be nice to be able to arrange the tittles as the owner wishes. Including bundles.

                            2. Would also be nice to be able to upgrade from SD to HDX at an additional price and not have to buy the whole movie again just to get a better quality of it.

                            3. Would also be nice to be able to rent a movie and if I decide I would like to own it, to be able to pay the remainder of the cost to own it. Being given credit for the cost of renting it. There are many movies that the preview looks good but the buyer won't know if the tittle is decent enough to spend all the money to own it, till you see the whole movie.

                            4. Would be nice if the PS3 was able to read the DVD or Blue Ray disc in order to convert from DVD to digital since most people don't have a blue ray player on their computer and been forced to do it the Walmart route instead of at home.
