    Re: Disney is being unreasonable.

Yeah, I was hoping that they would include some of the Touchstone/Hollywood Films in a sale for Black Friday/Cyber Monday. Those are my most wanted movies right now. In fact, I would say 7 of my top 10 most wanted films that are available for purchase on this site are Disney owned, but since I have them all on DVD or Bluray, I'm not inclined to buy them at their inflated prices.

Both 300's, Oblivion, Jack the Giant Slayer, Beautiful Creatures, and the first Sin City are, in case you do not have them already. Let Disney preen their feathers, I say.

I would buy the 3D version from you if the price was right.

This is without a doubt the most accurate comment regarding this subject. What the consumer is willing to pay is what dictates price (see Apple). As a result this hurts the cheap or frugal consumer.

I own 14 Discs at this point and have nearing 2500 movies and 200 tv seasons digitaly this format is likely to last Mp3 has outlasted the CD's dominant timeframe already and digital movies will do the same.

I don't value Disney movies any more than the other studios so I tend to buy less from them. Then when you add in that they don't do any disc to digital, and we can't even share them like the rest of our UV collection when we do buy them....... This doesn't mean I cant afford them, I see no reason to pay more so I don't.

Oh.... and +$2 on the 3D discs

A Digital Download is clearly a cheaper product as overhead costs are eliminated. Therefore it's price gouging. It's not 'the right thing' at all.
How is it overcharging? these movies cost millions and millions to make. Its their content they can set the price and if we pay it will stay at that price. Why do you think the music industry is failing? its because we as people have devalued the music itself to a point where its not profitable to make music anymore. Movies are headed in the same direction. We expect catalog dvd's to be $5.00 and we expect them all to be D2D and if they are not its blah blah blah's fault. well the studios and the actors would like to get their money and why shouldent they? when we bought Vhs we did not expect them to give us the dvd's for free and then when it came out on Bluray did we expect it for free?

The D2D program is the first time in the history of the MPAA where an upgrade path was offered. It is an incentive arrangement to jumpstart the new distribution method. I for one, am very grateful for the offer of D2D. It made my decision of which digital method to go with an easy one. Also, I was able to bulk up my library for a fraction of the cost of having to pay full price. I am not a rich man. Being able to pay a few dollars and get a 1080p title added to a static collection is a deal with very real value for me.

Nobody expect s it to be free but it most certainly should be cheaper. Vhs was physical. There were cost involved. Plastic, tape, cardboard for the boxes. Those physical items cost money. Dvd also had plastics and manufacturing costs involved. Same with bluray. With digital those physical production costs have been eliminated. It makes NO SENSE to charge the same or more when the cost of production has been lowered

What about the costs of numerous data centers and maintaining them. Designing websites and apps, and keeping them updated. Keeping records of users and their licenses. The huge amounts of bandwidth. Ongoing customer support. And providing all those services for years and years to come.

It doesn't cost Disney any more than other studios to create a digital. Most of the costs you are describing are not even related to Disney, but companies like Vudu. There simply is no reason for Disney movies to be priced so much higher than EVERYONE else except for greed.
