I was having the one freeze for a few seconds problem before update. Annoying, but at least you can watch films without the constant buffering.
After the latest Shield update...the freezing seems to be gone but a pop up from vudu appears on the screen now for about 3 seconds and goes away one time per film that reads something like: there is something wrong with this function during play --please contact vudu. This happens one time normally in the middle of every film. The film does not freeze when this pop up comes up. It is a small pop up. The buffering is gone though.

So I have installed the newest version of Vudu, and I was watching Ant-Man 2 UHD. 20 minutes in the picture froze but audio was stil playing, and then the picture caught up again. Anyone having these kind of problems now?

That happens on my Shield all the time but not only when watching Vudu content. I've seen this happen on Netflix lots of times as well. I don't think it's a Vudu problem but an Nvidia problem.

          160 UHD
          835 HDX
          3 SD

Ok, I have not watched Netflix in a while so I might have to test this out.
