Same with me but if our movies that share quit sharing I may be out almost completely with the exceptions being movies and tv shows I like that receive the digital only treatment.

Vudu set up a FAQ Page: https://vudu.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/410
Nothing on the shared accounts yet, but this is also a question I have!

Shared libraries were always akin to sharing a disc. There was only one license. UV simply allowed multiple people to access that license.

Unless Vudu wants to pay the studios for multiple extra copies of movie licenses, only one person (the library owner) is likely to keep said licenses when UV shuts down.
Vudu has since sent this email out which seems to indicate UV titles will be available in all shared library accounts after UV is shutdown. It was received by all Vudu accounts in my family that share the same UV library:

"Recently you received an email announcing that UltraViolet will be shutting down its service on July 31, 2019.

The discontinuation of the UltraViolet service will not impact your ability to watch, rent or buy movies and TV shows on Vudu. You currently have an UltraViolet Library connected to your Vudu account, and all of the titles you have in your Vudu account today will continue to be accessible in your Vudu account up to and after UltraViolet shuts down.

To ensure continued access to your titles beyond UltraViolet shutdown, please do not unlink your UltraViolet account from Vudu.

We are working with UltraViolet to make this experience as seamless as possible for you."

"If there are multiple users in your UltraViolet Library, their movies and TV shows will be accessible via the retailers linked to the UltraViolet Library at the time of UltraViolet shutdown. Each user should ensure that they have linked their individual retailer account(s) to the shared Library. Linking additional retailers can maximize each user?s access to the existing movies and TV shows in the Library and help avoid potential disruption. Visit www.myuv.com/retailers for a list of retailers. After UltraViolet shutdown, new purchases and code redemptions will only be available to individual users, as UltraViolet will no longer be in place to share those rights across multiple retailer accounts.

Yep, all signs are pointing to all users connected to an Ultraviolet account will have access to all the movies in that library after shutdown. So it shouldn't impact anyones access to movies they can already access. It only means movie sharing after the Ultraviolet shutdown will no longer happen.

So Vudu "sub-accounts" will get to keep all shared movies that they had access to prior to Ultraviolet shutdown.

                  That is a guess.

It's looking that way. It only makes sense that they wouldn't take away anything their customers already have. Even if shared users account for just 10% of their customers, it would be a salty 3 million people.

I guess my kids will have to start buying their own movies.

It says "their movies and TV shows" which I think means only the ones they have purchased will remain in their retailer accounts; not the ones that they received via sharing. It seems very unlikely to me that people would get to keep movies they didn't purchase. But, we shall see come August 1st!

Kaleidescape is another ultraviolet provider and they are very clear that purchases from other retailers will still be accessible after shutdown. This is no different than shared vudu accounts who are sharing via ultraviolet. Everything I'm reading indicates it is very likely all connected accounts will have access afterwards.

I don't get how "this is no different than shared vudu accounts...". I, as the owner of my UV account, purchase from several different retailers all the time. This has nothing to do with my shared users purchasing those movies; I own the license to those movies, they don't. But they get to view them because I share the movies to them. Once sharing is cut off, it seems to me they won't see these on their accounts anymore. But, hey, I hope I'm wrong!

Because the shared accounts sharing mechanism is ultraviolet and not Vudu themselves. I don't see how it's really any different than any other ultraviolet connected provider. Those shared vudu accounts can purchase titles and they go into your ultraviolet library as well. Plus Vudu had sent out emails to shared accounts saying they'll have access to everything in the library after the shut-off. If that means only stuff they directly purchased them you'd think they would say that, but they don't.

The sticky post at the top of this forum section says this:

"If you have an UltraViolet Library linked to Vudu, rest assured that all of your movies and TV that are linked via UltraViolet will continue to be accessible at Vudu leading up to the shutdown and after, including titles purchased from other retailers that are imported into Vudu from your UltraViolet Library."

All Vudu shared accounts are linked to an ultraviolet library. A movie shared by another vudu account is linked to that the shared account via ultraviolet. Which they just stated would still be accessible after shutdown.

The key thing is they keep saying to not disconnect from ultraviolet to prevent losing movies.

"The discontinuation of the UltraViolet service will not impact your ability to watch, rent or buy movies and TV shows on Vudu. You currently have an UltraViolet Library connected to your Vudu account, and all of the titles you have in your Vudu account today will continue to be accessible in your Vudu account up to and after UltraViolet shuts down."

A couple years ago I connected a friend's Vudu account with mine. During that time they purchased about 300 movies. At one point they disconnect from ultraviolet and they have been since. They still have those 300 movies in their vudu account because they purchased them yet I still have access to them in my vudu account as well because they are in my ultraviolet account. I didn't purchase them but for the past couple years I still can watch them and they show in my library. That's an example of two vudu accounts that don't currently have sharing setup that appear to have rights to movies from the same purchase.

Yeah we'll have to wait and see but you're making assumptions on how the licensing for the movies works. It does seem logical but all the wording from the retailers about the shutdown and from my experience seems to indicate it's possible for multiple Vudu accounts to have the license to movies regardless of what account or where purchased.

That's a good example to support your interpretation. I guess it's just hard for me to believe that my shared users would get to keep over 2,000 movies without spending a dime! I hope so!

I think quackman is correct. "Their" shows and movies is content they bought/owned..."shared" content is not "their" content, it is your content that you are sharing with another - but they are not the owner.

While I hope that isn't the case, the message seems that sharing would be stopped. Otherwise - the studios will basically be giving away the rights of their movies to up to 5 people who never bought it that are on each shared account out there.
