Are you able to play your UHD movies via your Xbox One S? My Xbox One S & Vudu app are both up to date but my UHD movies are only playing in HDX.

        I'm using a Sony x930D set.

          This page might help: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-o...-on-xbox-one-s

Especially try this to see what the XB1S recognizes from your TV:

"Make sure the console is automatically detecting your TV. Double-tap the Xbox button to open the guide and choose Settings > All settings. Select Display & sound > Advanced video settings and choose Auto-detect. 4K isn't available when HDMI or DVI is manually selected."

I am having this exact same problem. Just purchased the Xbones and updated everything. The xbox recognizes the TV and that it can do everything except HDR. However, there is no option for UHD in VUDU. I double checked online to make sure I was looking at movies that had the UHD option. I looked through the page you linked but I have already done everything on the list.

For anyone having the issue where you own UHD but it's not showing up while using Xbox one S. First completely quit the Vudu app. Than go to sobs settings, sound and video. Than go to color dept. change the depth to one not in use. I found out that for my rv the UHD wouldn't work if I used 30bit but when selecting 36bit my UHD movie would activate. I have the LG UH8500. My friend has a Sony. He has to go from 36bit to 30bit to get his UHD movies. So try each setting to see which works for you. But remember to quit the Vudu app before each change. Good look

Vudu just release an update for the Xbox one S. It's not happening anymore for me with this update.

Is there much of a difference between the HDX version and the 4K version since the Xbox doesn't support Dolby Vision? I keep hearing people say HDR is what really makes 4K worth it, so how is 4K on here without any type of HDR?

The 4K SDR version is using a more efficient codec (HEVC) with 10 bit color at up to 15Mbps, so it still does look better than HDX 1080p in terms of fewer digital artifacts and better gradients, etc (especially with somewhat larger screens and closer distances - ie. with a 40" TV from 15' away, there are diminishing returns...)

That said, Vudu will be supporting HDR10 later this year on the Xbox One S and other devices, so UHD movies you buy today will eventually have HDR10.

                      Jake,

Thank you for technical information. Does the DV version run up to 15 mbps as well or higher? Are there any plans to increase the HDX mbps?

                      Thanks again!

The Dolby Vision playback is also at max ~15Mbps (technically it's the same stream as the SDR since it's currently using a Dolby Vision version called "Profile 4" which is backwards compatible with SDR - also called "main10").

I can't really comment on specific plans for HDX or otherwise, but I can say we are always working on ways to increase quality while maintaining (or decreasing) bitrate... it's not as much about increasing "Mbps" as maximizing perceptual quality of the video - and there are many approaches to that...

Are we talking December 31 later this year, or like September/October later this year? There are so many UHD titles coming from Universal mid-October, and it seems their catalogue titles are releasing with HDR10. It seems like a good indicator they won't be available on VUDU as has been the case with King Kong (2005) and The Mummy trilogy. Flixster also has a bunch of UHD Universal titles that I assume are not featured due to their being available exclusively in HDR10. I have my fingers crossed that once VUDU adopts HDR10, Fox may finally join the rest of the world and start offering their titles without that ridiculous Vidity nonsense. All that aside, I'm still waiting on Warner to make the Harry Potter films available, as they are inexplicably missing from online providers despite being released earlier this year.

Very well said and I completely agree even though I'm able to watch the Vudu DV titles on my Vizio display. I would like to have more choices having HDR-10 as well.
