Don't forget about sharing. I have a feeling we will lose the ability to share our libraries with up to 5 people. That's one of the main things I loved about the UltraViolet system, but we all know Di$ney won't have any of that...

I was very relieved to see Vudu mentioned in this announcement, and having all my titles available on any platform sounds great, but its really going to suck to lose my shared library that my group of friends has built together.

No..your post does not answer that concern at all.

Ultraviolet and Vudu only digital movies are not on Disney Movies Anywhere currently.

Vudu being an outlet for buying and watching Disney Movies Anywhere or the rebranded Movies Anywhere does not mean that the Ultraviolet movies will be ported over to Movies Anywhere.

One has nothing to do with the other.

If Ultraviolet folds, then the licenses for the Ultraviolet content will no longer be valid.

Vudu currently supports DMA, Ultraviolet, and their own digital content.

Once MA rolls out, it will simply take the place of DMA, but will have more providers supplying MA content.

That does not mean that the studios will all of a sudden take their previously released Ultraviolet content and convert people's UV libraries over to MA.

I wasn't surprised to see that Vudu will be listed, they are already partnered with Disney for DMA. I think people are under the belief that MA is a new format. It is not. The MA format is already being used and Google, Vudu, iTunes, Amazon all already support it.

Remember, all MA is a new name for the DMA service.

Disney removed their name from in front of it because it will no longer be just Disney movies.

As for the sharing libraries, that is a good point.

Keep in mind though, you will still have your Ultraviolet library, at least until if/when Ultraviolet goes under.

While all but one of the major studios will be moving to MA, there are still a lot of smaller providers that use UV plus all the previously released UV content that is out there.

Another thing that will suck if UV goes under will be the content that has lost streaming licenses and is no longer for sale digitally, but if you bought it before it went out you were able to keep it.

If your UV titles don’t transfer to MA 1) the current 20+ million UV customers wouldn’t bother joining MA and it would be dead in the water and 2) the studios would have to continue to run UV financially which they wouldn’t want to do.

That scenario would only make the current landscape of customer confusion and their movies being on this service but not that service worse, and that’s what the studios are trying to FIX.

I'm just trying to understand here, please bear with me....

If there is no one left supporting Ultraviolet after this Movies Anywhere arrangement begins, how are the licenses to the UV movies we've purchased and/or converted via Vudu (or one of the other UV partners) going to continue to be maintained and honored?

            Thanks

When MA goes live, I suppose we will see for sure, but between our two assumptions, yours are sure the more pessimistic of them.

There will be companies still supporting Ultraviolet. Paramount for one, and there are smaller companies that will too.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

Re: Is Ultraviolet dead? Anyone else considering jumping ship (to Apple/Google/Amazo

It's nearly 2018. Why can't we have ONE service like UV that connects ALL of our streaming accounts, and allow ALL titles to port to everywhere one's account is linked? In this day and age, why studios refuse to come on board is beyond me. I know Paramount is still in discussions and they need to join this too, otherwise all our Paramount and Lionsgate titles will not port. And why other studios seem to be 50/50 with UV - like MGM, are not on board.... UGH

I just want to know what will happen when the merge is done, and say we have a movie in iTunes and the same movie in Vudu? Will they overwrite each other and keep one, or will be stuck with two in each streaming service? What if we have a title that's unrated/extended, and somehow it ports to others as theatrical? I sure hope they have all this worked out prior to launch!

I am curious if this either starts a price war where Apple, Google, Amazon, and Vudu all have to compete since all the movies are in the same bucket.

Or if this results in collusion where all movies are the same price everywhere at the same time.

I will say one thing, as a huge Disney fan, I will miss having an app (Disney Movies Anywhere) that has nothing but Disney movies in it.

I could see this either way since Disney couldn't be shared since it wasn't UV. Now it could be the other way around and shared people might see all the old UV stuff plus Disney they didn't see before. Have to wait and see.

Yep, kinda sad to lose the DMA app. Love having my nice, clean collection in there.
