UHD purchase not transferring into Vudu from MA

It's only been a month so far, that isn't that long is it?!?

    On a more serious note:

MA support confirmed they are working with vudu to resolve this issue but did not have any estimate on when the fixed code would go live, just to keep waiting.

Any update on this? One thing that I've noticed is that when I buy a movie that I had previously purchased from Vudu from another provider in a higher quality, it still shows up in my transaction history on MA as being purchased from Vudu. The movie moves to the top of the transaction list and the quality is updated in MA, but the provider purchased from isn't updated in MA, at least not in the transaction history. I wonder if this is the cause of the problem: Vudu sees the new transaction as being a Vudu purchase, so it doesn't check the quality. This would also explain why Google updates the quality based on the new transaction.

One way to test if this is the problem:
Does anyone have something that they purchased originally on Google or iTunes in sd or hd, had transfer to Vudu through MA, and then could purchase in a higher quality from Google or itunes? If the higher quality transfers in that situation, it would seem to confirm that it is the transaction history bug that is causing the problem.

Where do you see transaction history for MA? Roku? It certainly does not show up on the MA website.

        Anyway...

Best guess is that vudu is importing only the first ownership token for any content id, and not the highest quality version. All records needs to be checked and highest quality (not oldest or most recent..) imported.

We know that quality changes are possible since there was a temporary downgrade of many MA titles from HD to SD last week then they were restored from SD to HD - but in that case MA was likely modifying the original records at the database level, so it remained as one record which updated the quality in vudu accordingly.

This is not quite the same as what you are asking, but I redeemed a UHD code directly in MA but was only given HD quality which ported in to vudu. After going back and forth with MA customer service for a couple of weeks they added the UHD version. The UHD version never ported in to vudu, likely because vudu only sees the earlier record in HD quality.

Not sure exactly why this issue would take 4+ weeks to fix, but hopefully it will be taken care of soon.

On the MA iOS app, you can see the transaction history under the "More" tab. I think you can also see it the Android app in a similar place.

Thanks for this info. If you can look at your transaction history, what retailer is listed for those transactions? This would seem to indicate it's not just MA listing Vudu as the retailer that is the problem, but rather is Vudu looking only at the first transaction.

As far as I know there is no retailer associated when you redeem a code directly on Movies Anywhere or when Movies Anywhere support fixes/adds a title.

I guess you could consider the retailer to be Movies Anywhere as that is considered the originating source.

Same here. I redeemed UHD version of Baby Driver in Movies Anywhere. It only shows HDX in Vudu.

Here is something that worked for me. I had a problem with the first Austin Powers movie because I already owned it in SD when the trilogy that I purchased was imported into VUDU. The VUDU rep deleted the movie in the hopes that it would port correctly. It didn't. It came right back as SD. I then decided to try something different. I went to my UV locker and deleted the first movie. The Proper HD version of Austin powers then ported. It seems as if you have to find the Locker, wherever it may be to force things to happen the right way. I still do not know if MA is at fault if you have a lower quality in your UV locker.

I hope Vudu is actually looking into this, because it can't just be an MA issue as mentioned. All my 4K purchases on Vudu over the weekend have updated elsewhere, including iTunes. Some of these movies I already had in 4K on iTunes, but they bumped to the top of my iTunes purchases anyway because it detected the 4K purchase at Vudu. Clearly MA is able to process upgrades fine elsewhere, so why is Vudu the exclusion? There's a lot of content I don't want to buy twice if I don't have to, especially if we redeem 4K content in Movies Anywhere that isn't yet supported in UHD on Vudu. We get HDX for now, but I doubt we'll get UHD quality when it's finally made available on Vudu unless there's a fix. If you can't support the content in 4K now, at least make sure we can get the content we purchase or redeem when Vudu actually does get HDR10 exclusive or Sony 4K movies.

I also have this problem for iTunes purchases that are available on Vudu (when I already own HD thru Vudu).

Is there any update yet? Been patiently waiting since October 15th for a fix...

I know things can take time but it has been 6 weeks... thank you.

VUDU is actively selling 4k movies from Disney. They have the ability to take our money and give us the proper resolution. They claim that Disney controls how the codes that we enter are redeemed, but something else has got to be the motivator here and VUDU should honor a code just like real cash if it is valid. Disney does not want to take responsibility, MA is really just a rebrand of DMA and customers are quickly getting tired of the runaround. It is the same keychest system that was supposed to give everyone confidence and to bring more studios into the fold. So VUDU, the ball is really in your court and you have the power and the ability to change the scenario since movie collecting would not even be in the forefront if it weren't for your existence. Walmart and Disney are two very powerful empires which need not be the Grinch this Christmas, just give us great customer service and the proper redemption this holiday season.

Is there any news on this?

There are several movies that I have UHD licenses for through MA, but then have the HD license through UV. On Vudu, I only have access to my HD UV license and it does not show ownership of the UHD versions. In the cases where I did not own the HD UV license, the UHD license transferred from MA to VUDU with no problem.

They work fine through other MA partners, but I'd like to keep using Vudu. Work with me here guys!

I just received an email from MA stating the following:

In this case, VUDU wouldn't upgrade as titles purchases or redeemed directly on their service are not "upgradeable". The only way to upgrade a title on VUDU that was purchased or redeemed directly on VUDU is to purchase it again in the desired format.
Is this right? Is this the official Vudu policy?

That can?t be true. Titles upgrade elsewhere, and FelipeF at Vudu has said they are working on fixing this. It would make 0 sense for Vudu to not allow upgrades, they want people to join their service, not stop using it. Vudu, please comment on this, your loyal customers need an update on this.

This makes no sense, these are NOT upgrades.

However it happened, we now own UHD versions of movies in Movies Anywhere. That's the license we have, as is reflected in other services linked to Movies Anywhere. Vudu has an agreement with Movies Anywhere to be a Movies Anywhere license playback services. Just because they registered that we own the Ultraviolet HD version of a movie doesn't mean we can't also own the UHD version at Movies Anywhere, and having our Vudu account reflect access to the UHD copies isn't an upgrade to our Vudu account, it is just access to what we are supposed to have access to per their arrangement with Movies Anywhere.

ALSO...many of these Ultraviolet titles, I did not purchase or redeem them through Vudu. They were redeems at studio's sites, at myuv.com, through Fandangonow, and even some through Flixster...so again, this makes no sense.

Vudu needs to play back all my Movies Anywhere content the same way other Movies Anywhere services do, otherwise, why use it?
