I personally think the "Totally Useless" assessment to be a bit melodramatic. My seven year old loves it. I have a 64GB iPad two and so far my Vudu 2.0 app has worked like a champ. I have successfully downloaded his Monsters vs Aliens TV show and about two dozen movies he chose.

I was suggesting instead of buying an AV cable for an iPad to project your iPad Vudu app onto a TV to instead save the cost of the AV cable (which apple makes you pay dearly for) and instead spend the money on a Roku-3. That way you have a native Vudu app projecting 1080p onto your TV instead of a back door through an iPad app.
Oh, I see...that is how I'm setup. I watch all my Vudu movies via the Roku 3 because it's fast and I have never yet received any buffering issues on the Roku with Vudu.

I wanted to watch one of my UV movies last night on the TV in my hotel room. I have it download from VUDU on both my PC and my iPad. I have the new iPad client that supports download, and the beta PC client.

Tried the iPad. Can watch on the iPad, check. Tried Apple TV, nope, just sound, no picture. Tried my trusty Apple Component cables. Just the same as Apple TV, sound but no picture. Drats!

Tried the copy on my PC. Works fine to show on the laptop, check, Tried my laptop VGA connection, with extended desktop, so I can work while I watch. I can watch the FBI warning, then an error, HDCP not supported. Hmmm. Tried setting the TV as my only monitor, VUDU crash! Try again x 5. Nope, this is not working. My work laptop only has VGA and S-Video, no HDMI or DVI.

I know I could buy a Roku for my hotel room and stream them, but the Internet in my hotel is terrible. I really need to use the downloaded copies.

By the way, my purchased movies from iTunes work every which way, iPad, PC, PC to TV, iPad to TV with cables, iPad to Apple TV, PC to Apple TV, Apple TV from cloud. Rentals not so much, but that's another forum.

Yes, Apple is stingy in opening up their API to 3rd party software to use. It is a sad commentary.

This should work though. I tested it and it worked on my AppleTV. Sound was present...

Unfortunately, I have an iPad gen 1, and mirroring is not supported.

The Dark Knight works fine with subtitles on the Vudu player app.

With how many movies I have... lol... The CinemaNow app freezes after the first initial 10-15 load. Doesn't matter what I do, it ALWAYS FREEZES. Nothing can be better than the CinemaNow app, because it is garbage. I can't do anything with it, so hurray for you, but you will be biting your tongue when you get more movies =S

While I don't have the same problems as you with CinemaNow, it takes my phone about 2 mins to load my entire library on CinemaNow, and Flixster hasn't worked since I broke the 300 movie mark (I'm up to about 570 now, about 620 on Cinemanow with all the duplicates and Bond movies). I have a Galaxy S3 I bought second-hand coming in the mail and I cannot wait until I can sideload Vudu on it.

I've been on 2.7.0 of the CinemaNow player for quite a while and it kept telling me there were no updates. I just redownloaded the installer and low and behold they're up to 3.1.0. LMAO that CinemaNow couldn't even notify you that a newer version was available.

One problem with the app it still requires a connection to the Internet even after download is complete for playback.
So no airplane mode on an airplane or if you want to download a lot of movies to an iPad for viewing with no wifi signal.
I downloaded Bourne legacy today and it was around 640 mb's I compared to flixster and it was 832 mb's.
File size is great for multiple movies on my 16gb 4S.

Yes, still needing wi-fi is a bummer. Kind of defeats the purpose, for the most part. But I don't think all the downloaded movies require wi-fi, just some of them. Can someone else out there confirm this?

When 60 out of 94 ratings on iTunes are 1 star reviews, that should tell you that the app doesn't work. Please fix it.

Almost without exception, the one star complaints are people not being able to log in. This is due to lazy people not resetting their password after being told they need to, I would suspect.

There are also quite a few people who would like to see a sorting feature. You and I both agree this would be a nice addition. Flixster recently added this feature to their iOS app and I enjoy being able to sort different ways at different times.

The Vudu download tab appears to sort content in a completely random way. It is not by purchase time, alphabetical, download time, file size or any other criteria I can come up with.

Still, there is a lot of praise out there from folks who appreciate being able to download now.

Great app use it for what I got it for - watching movies. Updates are awesome, iPhone 5 support and love the feature to be able to download movies and watch offline (bonus points) Only thing I would like to have is an option to keep signed in or at least remember user ID and/or password.
If I could have one company fix something in their video play back app, it would be Apple.

Every time a title is added to a shared iTunes library, the meta gets hosed on the playback devices (iPad/iPhone/iPod). The only fix is to turn off home sharing on the device, reboot it, and then turn it back on.

This is a known issue that Apple has failed to fix for over a year. So annoying!!!

Add one movie to your home iTunes library? Okay, now you just hosed the meta data on your handhelds and need to go rebuild them.

                              Really??

Just tested with the 11 movies I currently have downloaded. All played without any connection to the internet. I set to Airplane mode, opened the app and started each movie. They all started and no reference to needing a network or internet connection. Now, when changing to my movies or my tv, it would say I needed a connection. Selecting downloaded movies, no problems.
